I’m currently studying MSc Advanced Computer Science at the University of Essex, Colchester Campus, and my experience so far has been fantastic. The course is well structured and covers a wide range of relevant topics including machine learning, AI, software engineering, and research methods. The lecturers are supportive, knowledgeable, and approachable, which makes a big difference, especially for international students. The facilities on campus are excellent – from modern computer labs and 24/7 library access to collaborative workspaces that are great for group projects. The Colchester campus itself is vibrant and full of life, with plenty of green space, cafes, a gym, and student events happening regularly. It’s a great environment for both academic focus and social life. If you’re looking to study computer science at a university that blends strong academics with a welcoming student community, I highly recommend the University of Essex. read more

Studying at the University of Essex has been a really great opportunity I had achieved and I'm so greatful to come and study at this University. The modules were helpful and I learned something in every module. The professors sharing the same creative background as the subjects was very helpful as I got many insightful insights about the creative industry. The campus is huge. I tried to explore as much as I could and it is beautiful. I had a great time with my friends attending all the events that happened on campus and I'm excited for the upcoming ones too. It's a bittersweet moment now that I know I am finishing my Uni days in a couple weeks. I had a great time studying at the University of Essex and I'm gonna miss these days going forward but I'm also happy that I got to live these days to the fullest and created some amazing memories. read more

I have done a placement year with the university which has made me understand a lot more about why more resources aren’t available which students may desire. I can see a willingness from the heads of departments to improve the experience for our students, and they have taken an extra step in terms of careers by bringing in different alumnus and companies to encourage us and upskill us for internship, placement as well as graduate employment. The Students Union is amazing, they support us a whole lot, even for some of us who may not be able to leave campus during the holiday, they make our overall stay worthwhile. The Societies are fantastic, they are fuelling the interests of a wide variety of students from different backgrounds. Internet could be better, we usually have regular outages without effective communication as to what is being done t try and solve it, however it always gets sorted at some point and as I have unlimited data, doesn’t really bother me as much, more my flatmates read more

I enjoy studying at Essex. It’s a perfect university for those who want decent societies, good career support and plenty of opportunities but this is from the perspective of a Law student. I have friends from other departments that generally would not really agree with this opinion. I think attending Essex has been mostly stress free and peaceful, and its environment is actually quite great! A perfect “uni getaway” for those tired of the buzzing city life. Supervisors and personal tutors can be really helpful as well but you do need to make this an effort yourself - it’s University actual. I do wish there were more silent/private study facilities for those overwhelmed by the idea of sitting silently with no food in the library surrounded by 1,000s of books. There are some spaces on campus but they aren’t always well kept, sometimes are randomly locked, or are being invaded by random groups of students taking naps, watching movies/football matches or having conversations with friends. read more

I was mesmerised the moment i saw the University. Beautiful landscapes and gorgeous towers felt like a dream come true for me. There is alot of do and the SU activities are quite fun, The only thing that bothers me is that there are less options to eat at the uni and for international students it might be expensive as well. Another point that i would like to make is the health club at the university needs to have lower prices especially for international students coz we pay way more than the local students. read more

- horrible hilly university in a horrible boring city. Do not come. No student jobs, not third spaces and all the food on campus tastes like they squeezed a wet sock on it. Nothing fun on campus at all. Not the atrium or the ic hall. Societies are awful. There nothing to do but club or eat below mediocre food. The accoms are alright. But only the private ones. The on campus accoms were all built with thin walls. The course and staff I have are lovely and engaging and kind. My only benefit is having kind professors. read more

The University has so many societies to join and advertise themselves at the freshers fair each year. There are lots of places to study or have chill time and great food outlets ranging from breakfast to lunch/dinner. There is a store that sells the universities hoodies, sweaters and joggers which are perfect for fall/winter and are very cosy. read more
