If you want to complete the MSc Psychology program here ... BEWARE. After an 8-month dispute with my School, I received 40% of my tuition funds back, a recommendation was made to the School of Psychology, and an apology was given. This occurred because the expected level of practical research experience and support needed for me to flourish both within and beyond this institution unjustifiably lacked and in turn made Ph.D. placements and securing a job in my field futile. Throughout my time there I received a complete lack of support from my supervisor that aided in the overall lack of research experience I was able to receive. Despite the multiple attempts I made to allow staff to determine alternative solutions, their dismissals on all fronts and its resulting repercussions were enough to warrant a complaint. I would NOT recommend it. read more

As a Psychology student at the University of Birmingham, I’ve really enjoyed both the course content and the level of support available. The department offers excellent resources, with approachable lecturers, regular office hours, and helpful personal tutor support, which makes a big difference when you need academic guidance. I have around nine hours of contact time each week, but a lot of the work—especially if you’re aiming for high marks—takes place outside of this through independent study, extra readings, and research. One aspect of the course I particularly like is the RPS scheme, a compulsory but non-weighted part of the degree that allows students to take part in a range of psychological research studies. This provides valuable insight into different research methods and practices, and is especially useful for exploring potential dissertation topics. read more

The content at UOB is engaging and challenging. I, like many others, thoroughly enjoyed the optional modules presented in year 3. I do wish that optional modules could be introduced earlier, perhaps second semester of year 2? The teaching quality and organisation of the modules vary across the courses. Generally, the biggest issue across most of the modules is timing. Many modules present feedback and marking later than the expected date which gets quite annoying. I also think that my course does not offer the best job prospects. Most of the psychology graduate jobs revolve around teaching, and posts for assistant clinical psychologists are far too competitive. read more

The first year of psychology is fairly easy going. There are few contact hours which seems great at first but in second term becomes fairly boring. The content is very research based and so very different to a level. As someone that is passionate about psychology I was disappointed as the small number of contact hours, seminars and tutoring I felt like I wasn’t even studying. read more

The course isn't well managed/run, always confusion as to whats going on, mixed advice on coursework etc! Its as if lecturers turn up to say their 50 minute piece then head home with no care! Personal tutors are a joke and as it's mainly lecture based, there is little time to get to know coursemates read more
