I study Liberal Arts and Science (BASc) which I love for its flexibility as it allows me to study modules from different subjects. For me this includes philosophy, biology and film. There is only one core module in the first semester meaning you don't spend much time with the course tutors and coursemates, however, the course hosts many events like tea & biscuits or film nights to bring together people on the same course.

The range of topics offered in the Liberal Arts course at the University of Birmingham is broader than at many other university options, allowing students the freedom to explore a variety of academic areas. One of the main advantages of this course at Birmingham is that there is no necessity to major in one subject, so students can keep their options as broad as they want for as long as they wish, and dissertations can integrate a range of topics as well. The course offers a progressive way of studying, allowing students to approach topics by combining the key skills across subjects rather than limiting themselves to one insight. The students on the course are bright and enthusiastic (LANS students have a reputation for talking a lot!) and you can be sure that any LANS student that you meet will have a friendly and welcoming energy. read more
