Studying Law here as an international student has been a highlight, especially with the incredible support from CEPLER (the Centre for Employability, Professional Legal Education and Research), which bridges the gap between our lectures and the real legal world. I’ve had the chance to get involved in pro bono work through the Free Legal Advice Group (FLAG), allowing me to help real clients with legal issues while building the practical skills I'll need for my CV. My favorite part of the curriculum has definitely been Contract Law and Tort Law; the way the professors break down complex cases of negligence and legal obligations makes even the most difficult concepts feel intuitive. These modules aren't just about reading statutes; they involve workshops that simulate real legal environments, which is exactly the kind of hands-on experience I wanted from a British degree. The University of Birmingham is well known for being able to comply with the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the bar Standards Board when teaching content as they are able to portray and install the seven core modules for students, giving them the vital skills that are needed when progressing towards their legal career. Specifically, with the use of CEPLER (Employability arrangements), students are able to gain a taste of employment within the legal sector and gain experience debating and advocating on behalf of the vulnerable and the people who cannot defend themselves and this has also led to the importance of pro bono, which students at UoB regularly engage with. Not only does this help us engage with clients directly, but it gives us the opportunity to apply and implement our knowledge in real life. Furthermore, the modules are very diverse and helps you challenge the law. Even though some modules may be seen as bland, it is there to push us as future lawyers to amend it. read more

Living in my accommodation has been a mix of different experiences. It’s comfortable and convenient, especially since it comes with all the essentials like furniture and appliances, which makes daily life easier. One of the best parts is the social aspect—if you’re in shared accommodation, you get to meet new people and build friendships, but if you have a private space, it’s nice to have that independence and privacy. Of course, living alone can sometimes feel a bit isolating. Cost is always a factor. Shared places are usually more affordable, but if you want your own space, it’s definitely more expensive. Maintenance and management also make a big difference—if things are well taken care of, it makes life so much smoother. The location matters a lot too. Being close to work, university, or public transport makes everything more convenient, though central areas tend to be pricier. They provide crisp and clear lectures without confusing any individual child. Even they solve the queries if we have during the lecture itself which seemed quite strange on the very first day because of the myth that teachers only give lectures and go.
