Required subjects for English Literature BA Hons at University of Birmingham
A Level English Literature or A level English Language and Literature required.
If an applicant is not taking either A Level English Literature or A level English Language and Literature, then we require at least a grade 7 in GCSE English Literature.
We prefer applications from students with at least one A-level in an Arts, Humanities or Social Science subject.

As a first year studying English Lit at UoB, I've thoroughly enjoyed the texts I've studied and written about. I've been taught about a wide range of interesting texts, and have loved both building my knowledge on ones I'd read, and learning about ones I'd never heard of. With tutors specialising in different areas of English Literature, each lecture is led by someone who knows a great deal about their subject, meaning the content is taught by the best possible people. However, with each module focusing on a different text every week, I've found it incredibly difficult to shift focus from one text to another, and have been left feeling like I haven't learnt as much as I could about each text. As well as this, students are given all of the assignments for each term all at once, meaning I've found my Christmas and Easter holidays very overwhelming, as I have too many essays to write. I would much rather have one at a time, spread across the year, rather than all at once. read more
