I am a mature distance learning student, completing my MA in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics. The online platform is easy to use and the digital library is expansive. All staff have been easy to contact when I need any support, including IT, Finance, Admin, my personal tutor and teaching staff. I have been assigned a mentor to help me stay connected with university life and the Philosophy department. The modules are contemporary, as are the course materials. The student cohort is diverse and we all connect to the course flexibly, from different time zones. I receive a weekly events newsletter which has plenty of options for attending online webinars and socials. Feedback on assessed work does take 15 working days, which feels like a long time, but once it arrives it is extremely detailed and personalised, so it is worth the wait. I feel as though I am receiving excellent training in core philosophical skills of critical thinking, argumentation and academic writing. read more

I absolutely love this place! Moving here wasn’t easy, especially coming from another country, but choosing Battery Park was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The study spaces are incredible, and the pool table and table tennis area are perfect for unwinding after a long study session. The facilities are spacious, modern, and feel really safe. There’s always someone at reception, whether you need help with maintenance or just a friendly chat. It’s not a proper night without saying hi to the lovely Aga at reception, or starting the morning with sweet Bee. They truly keep the positive energy going and make the whole place feel like home. Honestly, it’s so worth it. read more

Overall a good accom however it is inconvenient that there is no reception during the weekend. I once missed a flight because I my passport was supposed to be delivered on a saturday but the delivery failed as the reception is closed. The fire alarms go off pretty often, inconvenient during the weekend because there is no one at reception so no one to turn it off. Otherwise the rooms are very nice, the staff is also very nice. It is definitely on the pricey side, an ensuite room is pretty expensive and I m not sure what justifies that price. read more

the university of birmingham is a great place to study, the campus is very nice, with loads of green areas, a variety of transportation options we can use. The library is also very helpful with some good study spaces and a lot of research material. The teaching facilities are also very nice, and there's a variety of them depending on each modules need. There's a lot of activities that take place around campus so i think it is easy to find something that will interest you or to try something new. read more

I enjoy studying liberal arts at UoB because it allows me explores different subject modules each year. I’ve learnt to realise what I do enjoy and what I don’t enjoy in different subjects. There are loads of student societies to join from as well on campus and I try a new one each year to meet new people. I’ve been on committees and been able to have a part time on campus which is flexible around my studies and commitment. The library on campus is 24/7 during term time and even has group study spaces, silent spaces, rooms that you can book as well. This is quite the lifesaver for exam season or if you’ve left your assignment a bit late again! Day time events are great as there are ones from student societies, the student union, the department and the main university. This includes Welcome Week, UoB Xtra which takes place after exams and the artisan markets where there are monthly stalls from local markets on campus to explore. read more
