Studying Safety and Reliability Engineering at the University of Aberdeen has been an enriching and comprehensive learning journey. The program offered a wide range of courses, including Safety and Risk Management, Fire and Explosion, Offshore Structural Integrity, Statistics and Probability for Safety, Reliability, and Quality, among others. These courses provided a solid foundation in key areas such as hydrocarbon flow, risk management, reliability theory, design methodologies, and safety and environmental considerations specific to the oil and gas sector. Through the program, I gained in-depth knowledge of risk assessment techniques, applied risk analysis and management, and petroleum volumetric and subsurface fluid flow. The curriculum also emphasized the importance of process design layout an read more

The contents of the course is great and important but the teaching is awful. The only good teachers I have had are from the chemistry and maths department. The engineering lectures are really bad at explaining concepts and then don't want to answer your questions when you are confused. Some lectures can also be incredibly sexist and share classified information Infront of the class. My personal tutor however is a gem. Big up Dr Vaziri!! read more

Again, best case scenario. Course intensity stays at an optimal level, lecturers are true experts in their field and the facilities are fantastic. I have learned so much. You are attending your classes approximately 4 - 6 hours per day with Wednesday and the weekends off. If you can stomach the maths and seeking a lucrative career then Engineering is a prime candidate. Not to mention the contacts and countless opportunities you are presented from the university itself. For the first few years you will also have the option to switch disciplines within Engineering for example changing from civil to electrical or mechanical to civil. On this course you feel you are getting a true education and not wasting your time which seems to be a common theme with a lot of other courses. read more
