I studied Social work and enjoyed my course. The University of East London is known as a vocational university, meaning that they provide plenty of opportunities for students to gain practical work experience as well as study. They also run graduate and job opportunity fairs through the year. There are also many societies that the university offers, and the sports facilities are outstanding. There is a free bus service between the two campus. WiFi and I.T were excellent. It was an amazing opportunity to meet people from so many different parts of the world. A very enriching experience.
This university seems friendly and welcoming place. Lots students are local and staff are practical and realistic which is good. Big focus on employability after degree. Sports facilities are top.
I am in my final year of LLB degree. I received huge support from lecturers and the administration. I was always encouraged to join law societies which are very organised and well maintained. The course structure was also very clear and easy to follow. Overall, a very pleased student !
The west halls are truly awful and I'm yet to meet anyone who disagrees. Right opposite London city airport so you're woken up at 8am most mornings by the sound of airplanes landing/taking off, which also fills your room with the smell of aviation fuel (this usually goes on all day with about 1min intervals of silence inbetween) the rooms are horribly designed & cramped with insufficient storage space. We've had constant problems with the fire alarms going off for no reason. The epay system does not work so every month you receive threatening letters saying you have been fined for not paying rent. Furthermore the residential services just don't seem that bothered about finding a solution to any problems you have. The list goes on.... that said they are definitely just about managable for your first year but you do feel like you're being ripped off every day and it can get a bit depressing. I have however been thoroughly pleased my course so far.
Awful university. Teaching is diabolical, support is terrible, the subject material is pure tedium. Do not study business management here, do not study anything here. If your field of work doesn't require a degree, do not waste your time. This university is not worth the £9,000 a year fees. It isn't worth anything but they are happy to lie to you, to get your money and when you realise you have been shafted it is too late to do anything. I'm just going to disappear and not pay back the student loans, this university is pure awful and it should be shut down and sued for the awful practices it employs. Wifi and internet are good tho.
Facilities are great. However I have had a extremely awful experience in terms of enrolling onto my course. Staff do not communicate well, knowledge is also lacking in terms of enrollment processes between departments. I have been back and forth like 4 times and cannot see any positive outcome in this. Spent quite a bit of Money going back and forth and issues with fees are still not sorted. No named person to contact. Very sad as I was thinking about offering work placements within my organisation but am not confident enough with what I have personally experienced. Hope the rest of my course is OK as £8000 is a lot of money to pay out and not get at least a good service if not excellent :( not happy been away for 2 years and was hoping that coming back as a graduate things had become more efficient. Doesn't seem so. However please note this is my personal experience and other may have had a better one than mine.
Residential services of the uni are the worst people to deal with any problems at all. They make it clear that the university cares only about money and does NOT take any care into the well being of its students. Health and safety is at a low, staff very unhelpful and threaten you if you do not pay due to unsatisfactory services. There maintenance workers are also incompetent letting the same problems occur again and again. I therefore would not suggest staying in halls here - NOT WORTH THE MONEY.
They came out with my results late which meant I lost my places in all universities to do my masters. I am now working full time and my degree means nothing. Thanks to uel for wasting 3 years of my life and ruining my future
