The first year , as an international student , it was a little bit harder to accommodate with the British style of teaching, learning and marking. My personal tutor is amazing and he gave a lot of good tips.Being thought online ,was not something that I liked too much just because I could not feel that I was at University. It is very hard to find an InterShip . read more

There’s a reasonable amount of overlap with A-level in the first year, but the maths side kept me on my toes. I got 5 assignments in my first semester, but I’ve managed to handle it (make sure you stay on top of them!!). Regular ‘quizzes’ (mini exams) instead of sitting in a hall for a big final exam is a nice change to A-level in the first year, but I’m sure they will change as I move on to later years (I’m a fresher writing this). Lecturers are all intelligent and nice, make sure you pay attention even if you think you know it all. read more

A lot of contact hours, around 23 first semester, so definitely getting value for money. A lot of labs with 3rd/4th year demonstrators to help if you are stuck. A bit difficult to catch up with if you have never done computer science before still manageable. Not good for module communication ie a lot of deadlines fall within the same week. read more

The first 2 years of my CS degree at Sheffield prepared me very well for industry. I was able to get an industrial placement easily and I am doing extremely well because of the extensive practical work and lab sessions I was exposed to. Extremely well organised and accommodating university with very fair and flexible administration. Top quality teaching and graduate opportunities with links to industry leading companies. The best disability services of any university. read more
