Required subjects for Biomedical Sciences MBiol Hons at University of Leeds
BSc: AAB
MBiol: AAA
Including biology or chemistry, plus another science or science-related subject. Critical thinking and general studies excluded.
We accept the following:
• Science subjects: biology, human biology, chemistry, mathematics, PE and physics.
• Science-related subjects: geography, psychology, use of maths and statistics.
Applicants taking a Science A-level (in England) will be required to achieve a pass in the practical element in addition to the standard A-level grade requirement.
When an applicant is taking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or the Cambridge International Project Qualification (Cambridge IPQ) this can be considered alongside A-levels and may attract an alternative offer in addition to the standard offer. If you are taking A-levels, this would be ABB at A-level and grade A in the EPQ (BSc applicants) or AAB and grade A in the EPQ (MBiol applicants).

1st and 2nd year have a lot of coursework and teaching whereas from 3rd year onward it is mostly placmeent and self-study. Very challenging course and you need a lot of self discipline. Student support is not the best and isn't always helpful. Personal tutors vary a lot, you can have an amazing and helful one or someone that can't be reached or something in the middle. 4th year is the best way to go into a full blown burn out read more

The actual medicine side of the course is very engaging and is taught by impressive individuals. It is nice how the lectures are all online and in-person so there is no requirement to attend, I find this makes your schedule much easier to manage. There is a research module called ENQUIRE which I enjoy and find extremely valuable to a career in medicine. On the other hand, there is a completely useless module called IDEALS where you learn random things about team development, creating plans etc… There is also a social sciences/ psychology module called I&P which I find isn’t too relevant to medicine. All in all, it is a very good course and there are only a few things which you have to put up with in comparison to the masses of interesting things you will learn! read more

The content of the course is really engaging. Unfortunately a lot of our lectures have been online so a bit unexpected and requires a lot of motivation, which i personally struggled with at the start. However, the staff are great - my personal tutor is wonderful and incredibly supportive - so that’s definitely made things easier. read more
