University of Birmingham
My overall experience at the University of Birmingham has been very positive and rewarding, especially as an international postgraduate student. The university offers a strong balance between academic quality, practical opportunities, and student support, which makes it a great place to study at LLM level. Academically, the teaching is research-led and intellectually engaging, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking rather than rote learning. Seminars are discussion-based, and students are encouraged to engage with real-world legal and regulatory issues. One of the biggest strengths of the LLM programme is its flexibility, which allows students to choose optional modules outside their core pathway and personalise their degree according to their interests and career goals. Beyond academics, the university provides many extracurricular and employability-focused opportunities, such as research roles, pro bono work, mooting, and skills-based challenges. read more

I have had a great experience studying at the University of Birmingham so far. Both the academics and extra-curricular aspects of university life have been amazing. I have personally liked all of my modules so far. They match my research interests quite well. The lecturers and tutors are all experts in their respective fields, and it truly feels enriching to be in their classrooms. My course operates in a seminar-only mode, which was definitely a huge change from my undergrad. However, I have really come to enjoy seminars as it is interesting to hear from both my tutor and my classmates. Everyone has something different to bring to the table. The staff are also very supportive outside the classroom, and I have generally not had any issues with contacting them. My experience living in university accommodation has been smooth so far. The accommodation team regularly organises events for its residents, which help keep the environment really lively. read more

I attend the university at the Stratford-upon-Avon campus. The facilities are good, and we have access to all of the books that we need for the course either in the library that we have on campus, or online. Some older resources are only available at the main campus which is around an hour and a half away by public transport, but in most cases this is not an issue. The wifi (eduroam) is normally good but has had some outages recently. We have a drama society which puts on plays regularly. read more

The University is a great place to study. The campus is primarily traditional red brick and is a really nice area to be in during all seasons. Although the campus is out in Edgbaston it is really easy to get into the centre of Birmingham by train from University Station or to get to areas like Harbourne, which is good for shops and restaurants. Academically, the university has really supportive staff and lots of systems put in place to provide good support and different opportunities. The careers team is especially good and there are lots of options to complete work experience, internships and volunteering both in the UK and abroad. The social life is also great, with lots of societies, events and club nights at The Guild. There's also generally lots to do in Birmingham and the area around the uni so the social life is a real selling point of the uni. read more

Studying here feels like being part of a 125-year legacy. Walking under Old Joe (the iconic clock tower) every day in the historic Chancellor’s Court gives you a sense of pride that is hard to match. But don't let the historic buildings fool you—inside, the facilities are cutting-edge. From the Financial Trading Suite to the massive 24/7 Main Library, you have every tool needed to succeed in a data-driven world. Perhaps the most defining part of the experience is the support. Whether it’s the Wellbeing Officers in the Business School, the Student Support Fund providing a financial safety net, or the Careers Network helping you land internships at global firms, you never feel like just a number. read more

UoB is a great uni to study at for many reasons. The careers service have been incredibly helpful in assisting me on my path to postgraduate study, and I would recommend these services to anyone studying at UoB. Furthermore, UoB has hundreds of student-lead societies to get involved with, meaning there is a society out there for everyone. The student accommodation is all close together and well-maintained, and the facilities on campus are plentiful. I always feel very safe at UoB because the campus layout means that my friends are never far away, and the first-year student accommodation always had 24 hour reception so if you ever have any worries or problems there is always someone around. read more

I really enjoy going to the university of Birmingham as it has a lovely blend of being a campus uni whilst being in amongst a city, which provides a nice green familiar space and cheap city housing! The University has great facilities and plenty to get involved with no matter what your interests are. Having a personal academic tutor allowed me to have constant support throughout my studies. There is always something happening on campus! Events and societies happen all the time, and they are a great way to get involved and find people with similar interests to yourself. There are also plenty of bars and pubs close by including on-campus bars. The city centre is easy and cheap to get to and has many clubs and bars also. Whatever it is that you fancy doing, you will be able to find a way to do it here at Birmingham. read more

As a student who spent a year at the University of Birmingham, this century-old red-brick institution has transcended the definition of an "university" and has become the most precious container for my growth in my youth. When I first arrived on campus, the greenery and the Victorian-style buildings immediately captured my heart, and the only underground railway station in the entire UK was an even greater surprise. Academically, the teaching here is both rigorous and inclusive. During my studies, it not only enhanced my academic abilities but also taught me how to collaborate across cultures. The career service center of the university is a "treasure", and I received a lot of help. The one-year study abroad experience at the University of Birmingham not only taught me professional knowledge but also made me independent, brave, and resilient. Here, I met like-minded friends, experienced different cultures, and became clear about my life direction. read more
