Modern Languages, BA FullTime

The teaching staff are just amazing - they are so supportive and considerate, being able to really build a connection with staff and peers is the main highlight of Modern Languages at Swansea Uni. Sometimes I have felt that the standard expected of students should be higher and I did not always feel I was challenged as much as I would’ve liked to have been. Also don’t expect to get many contact hours but that’s pretty standard across the uni! Overall have loved my course and I can’t credit the teaching staff enough. read more

To pay £9250 a year for 9 contact hours a week is s***. Try going somewhere else with more contact hours. Lectures and lecturers are (as a whole) great but you do get the odd few where they're literally reading off slides for the whole thing which, again, is a waste of money. Seminars are probably more helpful but you do get the seminars which aren't worth going to as it ends up being a doss session. Content wise, the course is great the books we study are interesting as well as being crucial to study and the course lecturers tend to keep it interesting Personal tutors, for me, were pretty useless when it comes to problems so you have to email different people in the hopes that they know what you're talking about and they usually sort it out before your tutor has even replied. Disability office is great, they're really helpful with things you need. read more

Very good. Personal tutor contacts you a few times a year and helps as much as he can. Brilliant teaching in English and really good attention to students in Spanish. read more

English Literature, BA Hons FullTime

I'm only in my first year at swansea so it could get better but really it's just average. The compulsory modules are really dull and the texts are dated, some of the lecturers are awful and unhelpful and basically read their whole lecture off a piece of paper - no preparation involved, no effort! PTs don't meet often but will answer emails okay. Overall the first year is pretty average read more
