I am currently studying in my second year on the Early childhood studies course at Sheffield Hallam (0-8 years) and I have really enjoyed all the content taught so far. I like the verity of different jobs that my course offers from, Child therapists to home visitors and Nursery/KS1 teaching. My course has given me a taste of what all 3 can offer as a potential future job. The support from my academic advisor has be particularly helpful when making decisions throughout the course so far and also just for a one-to-one chat when needed. I love this course and how it offers more that just an overview in teaching. read more

a great course. it’s especially great if you don’t quite know what exactly you’re wanting to do, you can go into social work, teaching and lots of other jobs after the course. The staff are lovley and understanding however some like to leave early and we had multiple guest lectures before coursework was due which seemed pointless and a waste of money and we felt confused and unprepared. i also don’t like how more and more online lectures are on the course, it’s hard to learn and concentrate especially with having additional needs. When living with others/ at home with kids ect it also makes it impossible to do hours of online lectures. I also noticed that we spend the majority of the time doing activities and i often seem to have to catch up on the notes from the lecture/ seminar as key points are rushed/ skipped. There needs to be more of a balance between activities and key content so that it’s easier to fully grasp the subject and take all notes needed. read more

Doing the course for 1 year as a foundation year to progress onto child nursing. Staff are friendly and can be helpful, the course content is good however a lot of stuff I have done in college so sometimes feel as though I am not learning much. But still informative. A lot of opportunities can arise from the course but additional courses have do be done to reach them and the jobs that can be gained solely from this course can be obtained without the degree. Good if you would just like a qualification in something but jobs can be reachable through other routes read more
