The forensic psychology course at MMU is laid out very well with the beginning being focused on the more technical aspects and the course developing into the deeper concepts later on. The course is taught very well with a combination of lectures and seminars dedicated to each module being conducted once a week. As well as this, the university holds a “psych central” where people who are struggling can talk to lecturers about their assignments or just the course in general. read more

Its a good course, however they seem to pile on the work, sometimes to the detriment of students mental health. Some tutors can be incredibly helpful and go way beyond their role to help, however others can be unhelpful. There seems to be a culture of only having some students getting access to working closely with some lecturers especially within neuroscience type researchers and access to the equipment they show off on open days is hardly used or seen once on the course. Content within the course is good, especially with some units like culture, society, community and self - where they try and teach you about more diverse areas and allow you to think beyond the more rigid thinking within other units. It would be good if the curriculum wasn't so white washed and we were taught about more diverse people/researchers/things. read more

Value for Money is only 3 * because i oppose the concept of paying for tuition, rather than a criticism of the course. The content is very good because it touches on HR, Accounting, Marketing etc. on top of Business and Psychology. Id say to every lecturer that isn't the greatest, there will be 3 lecturers that are solid. read more

I would say the psychology department are very very supportive, there are always study support sessions available, and psychology central (a study area for psych students with staff support) is a really good thing to have. The vast majority of staff are helpful and will answer emails and enquiries promptly, however sometimes they can be missed. Some teachers are notably better at delivering the content than others. Lectures can feel rushed at times depending on the lecturer. The course content is very interesting, and it is varied every semester. The assignments are challenging but are relevant to the course content and often allow a lot of choice for what you want to write about. read more

my first year and second year tutors were useless, i hardly even saw them throughout the year. now third year i’ve been seeing my tutor more (probably because it’s dissertation time but thank you tina rochelle who has been amazing so far this year). lecturers are quick to answer any queries, and most lectures are recorded so if you miss any lectures you can always watch the lecture capture. workshops are quite interactive, so if you’re antisocial like me you’re out of luck. there isn’t that much group work in terms of assignments; there was one group assignment in year 1 and then another in year 2. read more

Some lecturers do just read of the power point slides, however there are some who actually engage and make everyone in the lecture listen and engage with the lecture. However, I'm most disappointed by the lack of workshops and seminars in 2nd and 3rd year which I think are crucial in achieving the best grades. read more

The course material was very engaging, and I really enjoyed it, the support from staff was also excellent. However even with a 2.1 and experience working with vulnerable adults I have struggled to get even a voluntary/low paid job in the field due to the high amount of competition, and so have had to go into postgraduate study. read more
