Course structure does not make any sense: algorithms is somehow not even in the curriculum which is absurd. The biggest sin here is most modules are outdated and are taught slowly, whereas other universities could cover an entire module's content 2 weeks (with more to spare for other, actually useful content) The lack of mathematics is also a concern; I understand how it's not a pre-requisite for A-levels but I would have preferred if the university actually intended to cover the necessary content for higher level content (seriously, how could anyone study machine learning without knowing what a vector is?). Short contact hours is simply inexcusable and a cause for some of the complaints above: minimal content, unenthusiastic lecturers, and a general sadness that I have not seen in a computer science cohort anywhere else. If you are considering postgraduate studies, I implore you to either take the maths minor or simply not apply to Lancaster University's computer science program. read more
