Kingswood I is by far the worse equipped halls at Royal Holloway, but i feel for this reason is why it's the best overall halls at Royal Holloway. Kingswood is secluded away from the rest of campus by a 10 minute walk through a lovely village, and you don't feel like the rest of the students during your year there. There is a noticeable community feel at Kingswood as everyone's in the same boat. Everyone become's so close with one another as you see the same people all the time. The location is on the edge of a forest, which if your an outdoorsy person like me will be the main attraction of the place. So even tho it's probably the worst halls in terms of being comfortable, pretty much all the residents cried on the last day.

So I was worried about living in Kingswood from these reviews but I lived in Kingswood Block B (one of the monasteries) 16/17 and I absolutely loved it there. Living in Kingswood meant a little community with people you could randomly start a conversation with (especially in freshers week) purely because you lived in the same place. The walk to campus really isn't that long, 10-15 minutes, it's fine and Egham is insanely safe. I've never had a problem with Wi-Fi, the common room was like a 2nd home to me. Canteen food is a little boring but you can always take out or invest in a mini rice cooker. Although you're not allowed to drink in the common room, it's been done before and you can have pres/ a 'party' in your room. The small field is perfect when the sun's out. Don't be afraid to invite your on-campus friends to Kingswood, they’ll be fascinated. All in all, I really enjoyed my time at KW, wouldn't have changed it, and I hope the rest of you will as well.

its the worst place to live please avoid kingswood. Specially the self catered food is the worst thing to have they always make the worst food in the canteen

Toilets need to be improved as their extremely old and they need to be cleaned more thoroughly. Food in the canteen needs to be improved significantly

Pricing needs sorting out, different rooms are VERY FAR from being the same.... e.g. Some rooms are bigger with sinks and mirrors where as some are small and empty for the same price. Food is ok but still not cheap enough for a "catered hall" Many cleaners employed who really don't do anything BUT it's always a laugh, good place to hang out with friends, LOVE 8bar9

it's the cheapest you will ever find this close to London and it does have a good community vibe. But you are just so far away from the action. You certainly get used to it and the buses are really good and so is the minibus service on nights out. Would recommend highly if money will be tight for you (also it's the only one you can bring your car to so there's a nice upside there).

Although off campus, it was nice to get away from the campus bubble and create a little community and there is facilities that mean you don't need to travel to campus except for lectures which you can either get a bus or enjoy a nice walk, this is also great preparation for moving into a house in second and third year.

I had a great time there :) met some of my favourite people and enjoyed eating pancakes at 11pm

SO GOOD DONT LISTEN TO THE HATERS U WILL LOVE IT NOT EVEN JOKING

There were the odd problems, with water, and the fact I didn't have a shower on my floor for the first 4 weeks, but the facilities were nice, and the atmosphere and camaraderie at Kingswood couldn't be matched by any other halls.

Kingswood is sick. Its not the best place to live in terms of location (15 minute walk to campus) but there is a good social life which more than makes up for it imo.

Fantastic place with a great atmosphere and community

Terrible halls, poorly run, works all year, water turned off seemingly arbitrarily, sewage leaks in my block, etc. - good social life is the only saving grace.

Dontcha wish ya hall was as far away from civilisation as kw is

These halls have a great community, the one downside is the inconvenience of walking or taking the bus to campus, but I would definitely choose them again a second time around, if I could

It was like living in a prison. Grimmest place I've ever stayed.

Good for social aspect, bad for more or less everything else

great place to live, everyone gets along, rooms are fab

I am surprisingly happy living at Kingswood! The location is not ideal and the wifi connection is weak. But the new bathrooms and pantries are lovely, and the food is very reasonably priced. The social experience at Kingswood is great! I am very happy especially as it is cheaper than a lot of the accommodation at Royal Holloway

There's a piano, board games, and TV in the common room. No drinking after 11 which sucks

While a bit out of the way, Kingswood is an amazing social environment.

Socially very good yet it's still an old, far away building with just enough spaceto be called a room

Way too isolated. Hard to get to. So inconvenient!! it's in d middle of nowhere and my lifestyle was so unhealthy. No food served after 730ish. tesco or other convenience stores are too far. walking there at night is a bad idea. u hve to walk through the dark alleys...for half an hour. no joke. And if u take a cab, how much is that gna cost u at the end of d month? We're students yo lol we r poor beings. Troublesome to get to campus. u hv to wait for the bus etc. if the bus arrives late u r late for class. if the bus is early, ure late too since u hv ti wait fir the next bus. then in d end u just have to walk it. also late. kingswood is not the place to be lol. However that's when u learn the importance of having good company!

Despite being described as looking like a prison, and despite having no heating during winter, Kingswood hall is in my opinion the best way to meet people. With communal benches, a bar, and open corridors (I.e no card slots on the corridors) bumping into people is easy and I'm sure I've made some friends for life there.

Was appalled by our treatment during the winter in terms of heating and hot water. The only thing that made Kingswood bareable was my friends.

Kingswood 1 was pretty dissapointing, felt very isolated from main campus. Could have had more onsite facilities and the maintainence of rooms for example radiators and heating could have been much better. All in all, was not worth the money.

You'll find the mates for life but you'll forever be annoyed about how much you're actually paying for the bad cleaning and maintenance in general (no hea tand hot water for 2 months, bad food, dirty an. broken toilets)

Terribly managed. Terrible security. Purported 'community feel' really just perpetuation of college clique behaviour. Basically, Kingswood I is where all the people who picked Holloway as their insurance choice and don't particularly care about their degree get lumped. The types who would rather get sloshed and come back lairy and noisy EVERY NIGHT, even during exam season.

It's run down, not a nice environment to live in. My friend has mold and we all didn't have hot water for January. The only good thing about the place is the people, we are one big family, accross all flats, we aren't divided by individual flats like most places.

Honestly it feels pretty bad at first because you aren't in a traditional halls lay out but if you make it fun it will be! We had problems after Christmas 2014 which meant our year groups experience of it may be slightly skewed because we were annoyed with the issues however they are doing a refurbishment in summer 2015 and have compensated for the inconvenience.
