Every physics student has an academic advisor for the entire time they attend the university. This is a great system as it allows you to have someone you can go to for advice right from the get go. The quality of teaching in physics varies from lecturer to lecturer but I feel it really depends on your own willingness to learn and attendance of lectures. The course content is my favourite thing about studying here at Durham. I find lectures for all modules are always very interesting and engaging.

The pandemic caused my learning, motivation, physical and mental health to dwindle. I think the department did their best. They regularly sought out feedback from us, and organised as many socially distant group activities as they could, but even so, I cannot disguise that this year has been a negative experience on the whole; I am sure I am not alone in feeling this way, neither in Durham, nor in the country. In fact, it wouldn’t be fair to say this is exclusively a Durham issue: it is definitely a country-wide one. read more

Personal tutor? Do some universities other than Oxbridge get that? I get an academic advisor but they don't actually help with the course. Some lectures are rubbish, some are amazing. Pretty standard. It's easy to provide feedback to the department and they do listen! read more
