It's a small department, so I understand that a concert hall, grand pianos etc. won't be on the University's list of priority spending... I found this to be the only "issue", though links with the cathedral, the gala theatre, and other venues relieved this departmental pressure almost entirely. The staff were incredibly intelligent and inspiring, regularly publishing new works all the time, with modules being offered in their research areas: research-led teaching has been the preferred method. Upon graduating from Durham, it becomes apparent that employers are impressed by this fact, so needless to say the employability of a Durham degree is high. Especially in a department such as Music, where in the most recent Research Excellence Framework they were ranked 2nd only to Cambridge. I would recommend to a friend who was serious about reading Music at Higher Level. read more
