Durham is a stunning, safe, and tight-knit small town that offers an incredible historic backdrop for student life. It's easy to navigate, feels completely secure (especially walking home at night), and has a wonderful community atmosphere. There are many spots to study - the library and the newer teaching and learning centre! Things are always improving and you can see where your student finance goes. The collegiate system is handy for finding a community and getting to know a large group of people really well - I probably see at least 3 people I know out and about daily. There is lots of support available for anything from disabilities to welfare to finance. read more

The university’s campuses and facilities are spread across Durham, so choosing accommodation near your department may not be the most practical option. I wish I had known this earlier, as I might have chosen different accommodation. There are many clubs and societies, but the division between college-based and university-wide activities can make it difficult for newcomers to decide which ones to join. The Students’ Union (SU) has been a highlight, offering great support to international students through groceries, study spaces, and attention to students’ needs. I expected more from the Careers Service, although it may be too early to evaluate it fully. Finally, the university’s Wi-Fi is excellent, with a stable connection across its facilities. read more

I come from a third world country and just being here is a huge privilege. Nearly everything is perfect. I don't know if it's just the standard of every uni in the UK or Durham does it better. Things that could be improved: more inclusive halal meal options, more transportation alternatives or better scheduling because sometimes I have 3 different back to back classes at 3 different location in one day and its impossible to catch without a car. read more

I, personally, have had a blast at Durham University. Logistically the whole set up is incredible - the college system making community, activities and events super accessible, the location and city size being its own unique small city, 10 mins from Newcastle, but 10 mins from the club to home on average is incredible. The courses are excellent, from all I have spoken to and I have met someone on every possible one (as a liberal arts student this helps). The university are so supportive and so quick to respond to help requests. And ultimately, the cozy pub culture, gorgeous aesthetics, cute restaurants, dainty streets and so much more make it such a joyous experience. read more
