Durham University
The campus is clean and nice, I've never complained about the facilities although the study spaces on campus do get quite busy, so sometimes it's hard to find a seat. However, you can use your college library instead and that's generally much emptier! I love the societies so much, I've met so many of my friends through them and there is so much to get involved in. Zero pressure for college sports, but you can go competitive and do the DU sports if you want. The music is amazing, the auditioned orchestras are brilliant and go on tour! The SU is okay, I've never really used it though. I've only had bad wifi once in the whole year so that's pretty good. Overall, I love Durham -- it's great!! read more

Durham University
As a state school student, I felt apprehensive coming to Durham, given its assumed culture of cliquey, privately educated posh people. However, the university for me has been one of the most inclusive and supportive environments I've ever been in. The nature of college life makes it so easy to meet people, join sports teams and take part in societies of ranging interests, combined with the size of Durham itself, it is almost impossible to meet people and make friends. Colleges and the University itself provide masses of help for postgraduate prospects, mental health, housing and so much more. Every lecturer and leader is passionate and helpful, with lectures, seminars and sessions being meaningful and interesting. read more

My college (Trevelyan) is very well situated on campus and I live in a renovated block where the rooms are spacious and have good storage facilities. Though issues can take a while to be resolved (heating issues, low toilet paper stock) the staff are accommodating and there are often events being held for students throughout the week. There are not many washing machines for the college but there are no issues for laundry. The food can get repetitive, but it is mostly good and the portion size plentiful! read more

Great opportunities with careers - I have been involved in a career mentor programme which has given me great insights into potential career paths following my geography degree. The student union isn't a great deal at Durham, because we have a lot to do within our colleges. read more

Durham has been a rollercoaster. I have been able to compete in college sport, attend fancy balls and formals, fight live in front of a crowd of around 1,000 people, and enoy the bliss of summer by the river weir. That being said, I've also had rats in my second year house, a constantly breaking washing machine, the darkest and wettest winters of my life, and the agony of seeing an ex almost everytime I go out into the tiny city of that is Durham. I have, so far, loved my time at Durham. It has been an experience that has helped me grow so much in so many ways. But, the lows are low, and the loose structure of a (not too demanding) humanities course (not for want of academic demands) has not helped. As the summer of 2nd year approaches, and my time at Durham has reached over half way in its completion, I can't help but find myself wondering If i'll reach those highs again - or if it will peter out, into a steady medium of 3rd averageness. Very pretty Cathedral. read more
