This major involves a wide range of knowledge, but it is not very difficult. It's just that I don't know what I've learned and how much it will help my future employment.

Teachers are responsible, and schools have a lot of activities to help them find jobs after graduation.

Teaching quality of this course is not very well as some of the professors just read the PPT in the class.

Interesting content, especially second and third year ones, but since I moved from Japanese studies I can’t say it was the most desired outcome. No year abroad is especially unmotivating.

While the job prospects are quite good for UoS SEAS department, the language courses are nightmarishly intense and once your grades start to slip you have a chance of transferring to East Asian Studies, and no year abroad as the ultimate price to pay. It’s somewhat rewarding but only the strong survive, and if you want to do that, best to develop and workaholic persona.

The teachers tend to be unhelpful, give you more work than you can handle at once and look down upon you when you start cracking. I've heard more sarcastic remarks coming out of the mouth of my Japanese teacher than I have from any other person. Course organisation is a mess and they made no effort to change it no matter how much we complained. The only redeeming factor is that by the end of this whole ordeal, you'll be able to have at least some sort of communication in Japanese. Too bad the drop-out rate is 80%.

Because of Covid-19，studing here faced a lot of barriers which really influenced my study experience. It made everying less interesting.

The Japanese teachers are absolutely lovely and work so hard to help us learn Japanese, but due to the pandemic and our course being rearranged many of students' language skills have suffered. I have also grown a lot throughout this course and realised Japan is not somewhere I actually want to work in the future, so right now I'm at a loss in terms of my career path.

I can learn more about Asian countries especially about their media and politics.
Japanese Studies, BA HonsBy member967377 On 18th March 22
Japanese is a relatively hard language to learn with a lot of content to unravel but personally i think the course tutors do an amazing job at helping students to learn the language effectively and efficiently. Moreover, we also get a wide variety of module choices that relate to our course which help us understand more cultural aspects of Japan and East Asia. Overall a great choice if you’re passionate about languages.

To be honest, coming to the UK as an Asian to study East Asian business is a bit redundant. It is also difficult to find a job because of the epidemic
