Coming from doing a child care course at college the first year you are very bored. For those who are coming from A-Levels and have not come into contact much with anything that is child care based then this course is wonderful in the first year. Other than that I did try and change courses to allow me to progress into something more challenging for myself. This was proven to be a difficult process and eventually it did not even happen. I have found some amazing friends on this course though and the staff are all very welcoming and lovely. Employability prospects are the same as what I could have got after finishing college, I would need to expand on something else afterwards in my Masters in order to progress what I already have. But, this course is amazing for those who are starting out in child care and getting know the basics of everything to start you off for the second and third years.

I absolutely love this course and my personal tutor who is also the course leader. Its really fun and has super interesting modules. Learning in the outdoors in first year was the best! I was also only in 12 hours a week for 3 days in first year which gave plenty of time to complete assignments and makes the most of university life. This course also doesn't have exams which really is the dream!

Childhood Studies, BA Hons

Doing childhood studies has been a blast! I came on an open day, looking at another course and came out loving this course and choosing to do it, it’s taught me so much about childhood so far and what can affect development, I’ve had a blast being in this course and it’s guving me experience that I may not have got. The lecturers are great and supportive as well. The overall experience is a positive experience.

Course is so boring. Placement opportunities were definitely the best bit and the fact that it was all coursework based. Tutors are lovely just don’t help at all. Have a problem it will never be sorted out or will be in their own time (which is never). Don’t get my wrong some tutors were amazing and lovely, some were just k********. I just found it very boring. I wanted to change courses at the start but they did nothing about it and so I had to stick with this one.

I find my course extremely interesting with a range of lecturers that teach. It’s opening so many doorways for my future career and also doesn’t put pressure on exams which for me is a better option.

I only had 10 hours maximum contact time a week and sometimes found that lectures could be lacking or quite often boring. My personal tutor however is definitely a strong point for this particular course, however this could vary depending on which tutor you get. I find the content interesting on the most part, although, like any degree, I do find some of it less interesting. This degree will definitely lead on to a wide variety of jobs and even the chance to do a PGCE but in terms of future earnings, you’re probably unlikely to earn a huge amount. However, if you enjoy a course then this shouldn’t really matter.
