Starting university as a first‑year student means everything feels new at first. The campus, the teaching style, the pace, even the way lectures work. It can feel overwhelming, but one thing that genuinely makes a huge difference is watching the pre‑recorded lecture videos before attending the live lecture. Going in with some understanding already in place helps you follow the session much more easily, and you’ll find that the lecture becomes more of a clarification and confidence‑building moment rather than a confusing one. Another important part of the experience is asking your lecturer for help at the end of the session. Even if you’re shy at first, it’s completely normal. everyone is adjusting. Just explain what you do understand and where you’re stuck. Lecturers appreciate it, and it helps you stay on track. Really glad I chose Aston. Campus is small enough that you're never far from anything, which makes day-to-day life easy. Made some great friends through societies, and lecturers have generally been happy to help when I needed it. A few bumps here and there (what uni doesn't have those?) but overall it's been a great few years. read more

From my experience I think the university has multiple flaws. Poor management leads to warnings being issued unfairly and rude unprofessional behaviour from some staff member. The teaching is very low quality often requiring you to study on your own from basics. The sessions and exams are completely disconnected and there’s serious errors in marking. read more

Overall, I have had a positive experience at this university. The lecturers are supportive , the campus has a welcoming atmosphere , and I have enjoyed my time here as a student. My only true concern is the careers advice. Don’t misunderstand, the careers team is approachable and somewhat informative. However, the advice often feels quite generic. Even on one to one conversations. I was hoping for more personalised advice tailored to my goals and experience, but much of the information is the same as what I could easily find online. I feel more individualised support would make a difference. read more
