The course was fun and I enjoyed joining wsa however being a part of Southampton University I felt very disconnected and wished I could've felt more involved with the rest of the university read more

The facilities on campus are adequate. Could do with more social spaces though. The societies and clubs are plentiful but can be very cliquey. The SU is okay, but I have heard the bouncers at the club night and nasty, irrational and threatening. Careers service is okay - I haven't used it myself but I've heard good and bad. There's only a number of people that work there and it sounds like their responses to help people are pretty generic replies. The WiFi is awful, it uses a third party company across both campuses and accommodation. Its a challenge to sign into, you have to configure settings separately which is horrible, and is usually trial and error to connect. Plus it always randomly signs you out so you have to do this all again. read more

Having been on the PGCE course at Winchester I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for training. As a recent student here’ are my thought, opinions and experiences which I hope you find honest and helpful: - Teaching on the course is generally poor in several subjects, including maths, science and English (there are rare exceptions for music, art and PE): it is often delivered in ways we are told not to teach as teachers; it was frequently considered to be a waster of time by students, being boring and simplistic. - I found the course leadership to be atrocious with little concept of customer service and meeting student needs. Responses to questions about the course were met with defensiveness and fobbing students off rather than addressing and tackling some of the many issues. There are also important unaddressed issues around diversity and inclusion. - An extremely condescending attitude appeared prevalent towards students and little support was in place: a friend suffering read more

In my time at Winchester University I have had many good times and met some brilliant people. My accommodation and the facilities have been better than I expected, and any major issues I have had have been quickly fixed. I enjoy some elements of my course but enjoy others less. Overall, I feel that my course is going ok and I have found some modules and assignments very interesting but there are also improvements that could be made, which have mostly been reported to our student representatives. read more

I completely loved my time here. Having been to a different university the year before and not liking the environment or culture, Winchester was much more friendly and welcoming. Everyone here nice and easy going and there is plenty of society’s to join that are welcoming and fun. The campus is absolutely beautiful and there’s plenty to do both there and in the city. Could not recommend more!! read more

The university The University of Winchester has been absolutely amazing for me. The course itself is great and the lecturer's are amazing at being able to help. They have a very personal involvement in students life and wellbeing and how to help balance it with any external issues. The wellbeing team is absolutely amazing and as a first year the university does a great job at helping their students intergrate. read more

My friends and I were recommended this university because of their diversity and understanding for international students, but in reality they didn’t really care for us. It was more about the money in the long run. There were always issues with the WiFi and the student union only supported the societies they liked or had any relations towards. If you had any complaints they wouldn’t take it seriously, I had friends from Austria, China and Norway that decided to quit after one year because of offensive comments from students regarding the colour of their skin and nationality. After spending tons of money on my education the university hasn’t even considered the international students for graduation, this university is beneficial for any student in the UK, but if you’re from abroad I would recommend another university. read more

A student accommodation flat that surprised me. The whole building is very new with high speed Wi-Fi and 24 hour secure automatic doors, free gym area and laundry and the room facilities are all brand new. The space is very spacious and bright and comforting. To be honest the weekly rental price of the flat is a little higher than the average student residence, but after staying there for almost 1 month I think it is well worth it. 1. it is in a fairly safe and quiet location, about 10 minutes walk from Winchester's shopping streets, which is neither too noisy nor too inconvenient for everyday shopping. 2. Everyone in the accommodation is from all over the world and they are very friendly. The receptionist was very helpful whenever I needed help, such as when the facilities were broken down and needed to be repaired, collecting a delivery, etc. 3. there were regular social events and activities that didn't make me feel lonely while studying away from home read more

This university is a disgrace. If I could turn back time and go elsewhere I would. No detriment policy - to their credit, the 2019/20 policy was fair. But for 2020/21, in the WORST of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are given a measly two weeks self-certified extension, a few faculty extensions, and no leniency on dissertations and no way of protecting sliding grades due to illness, mental health, lack of resources or poor study environment. NO student support - ask any UoW student with any mental health struggles or disabilities and you'll get anecdotes about the horrendous treatment of the troubles confronted by these students, including being told that 'not everyone is disabled' when requested to KEEP THE LIFTS OPEN at night. Accommodation is rat-infested and the pipes are clogged, I was made to move out at 3am after a night in A&E because my bathroom had black mould and rat droppings. I cannot wait to graduate. This uni DOES NOT deserve your money. read more
