My first week at UCL felt like a whirlwind of new experiences. Walking into lectures for the first time was both nerve-wracking and exciting, especially seeing how much independence is expected compared to school. Meeting so many people from different backgrounds was the highlight — every conversation gave me a fresh perspective. One memorable moment was getting lost on my way to a lecture and ending up in a café, where I unexpectedly met a group of students who later became my first friends here. By the end of the week, the nerves had turned into motivation. What stood out just as much as the lectures was how welcoming everyone at UCL has been. The teaching staff were approachable and eager to answer questions, which made the transition into university learning much less intimidating. The campus help team were always ready to guide us, whether it was finding lecture halls or sorting out technical issues. Even the student volunteers went out of their way to make freshers feel at home.
UCL is really strong academically the course i do (law) is challenging but interesting, and the professors know their stuff. I like that there’s a lot of opportunities to get involved in societies and events, and being in London makes everything super accessible, from culture to internships. The campus and facilities are mostly good, though some of the accommodation and lecture spaces can feel small or a bit outdated. London life is amazing but expensive, which is probably the biggest downside. The student centre (main study space) is always too busy Overall, it’s a great place to study, meet people, and get opportunities. Just be ready for the busy city life and costs!
Wifi has been cutting out during welcome week but should be up and running soon. societies and resources are plentiful and very useful.
The university is wonderful with excellent facilities and students. The support provided is excellent but it’s easy to start feeling a little lost.
I would like to point out that most of the lecture theatres have poor ventilation and can sometimes feel suffocating, especially when there are more than 100 people in the room. Even basic tasks, such as printing, are not always straightforward — it’s not as simple as selecting a printer and sending your work. There is usually very little staff available to help with such issues. The internet connection is average, and in lecture rooms located on lower levels, the connection is often unreliable. On a positive note, there is a good range of clubs and societies, as well as an active student union. Regarding career advice, you can usually book same-day appointments to discuss your CV, cover letter, applications, or to do a mock interview.
An amazing place, really great to meet people from all walks of life too!
