In short.... I should have gone to a different university
It has been fun the nightlife is good there is something for everyone
An outstanding university, I am delighted I selected to attend MMU
Very good university but could be better in term of internet and help for students in need
Good clean facilities, friendly teaching staff
Thank you for leaving a positive review! We hope you continue to enjoy your studies with us :-)
More clubs and societies required
Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. If there isn't a club or society in an area you are interested in, have you tried setting up your own? This is something The Union offer and they would be happy to have a chat with you about it. Their contact details can be found at https://www.theunionmmu.org/contact-us/.
Campus facilities are average, not very modern unless you study business or law where there have been new buildings built
Brilliant university which has every facility and service possible for a thorough education
Good university, nice campus location
MMU is a place for future professionals with excellent real world work experiences available and world class teaching staff. The facilities fit the standard of the city being modern and in the heart of the city. The facilities are second to none
Thanks for leaving such a great review! It's good to hear you're having such a positive experience with us.
Felt right at home moving to Manchester and the fit right into the university. There is always someone to help and the library has great recourses. Accommodation all relatively nice especially Birley, night life is amazing and a wide range for all
MMU have the most supportive lecturers and tutors. They care about their students and the opinions students have, are passionate about the subject they teach and know what they're talking about. Facilities are good, as is the mix of students in classes/lectures.
Brilliant university. Has a great library, and campus facilities are great too. Staff can never do enough and treat you like their equals.
Great course and really good lecturers and staff who are always there to help and encourage you no matter what. Staff are always approachable about any topic, and point you in the right direction with lots of aid. So much help with dissertation advice and planning during second year; staff make you feel like a friend.
Thanks for such a positive review! It's great to hear that you've had a high level of support from the staff here. We hope you continue to have a great experience with MMU!
Foundation year had nothing to do with the linked degree, and somehow they managed to have about 4 left wing societies and 0 right wing ones with a ton of propaganda around the uni. I decided to take a year out after the foundation and now think it's a huge waste of money unless you're doing science.
I'm sorry you feel you've had a bad experience. If we do not have a society in the area you are interested in, have you thought about setting up your own? This is something that the Student Union offer, and you can contact them at theunion@mmu.ac.uk if you are interested. In terms of the content of your Foundation Year, have you tried talking to your Student Support Officer in regards to your teaching and learning experiences? They are there to support you with any problems you experience whilst at university, as well as provide guidance to help you achieve your goals. Please visit our website for information about our Student Support Officers and how to contact them: http://www2.mmu.ac.uk/business-school/study/student-experience/student-support-officers/I hope this helps.
I’m in my second year, and everything has been brilliant so far. The tutors are helpful, support staff are friendly and there are so many good facilities and events for students of all different types.
Thanks for such a positive review! Glad to hear you're having such a great time studying here!
MMU is a fab University - loads of resources available and really helpful tutors that will go the extra mile to make sure you’re not struggling.
Thanks for such a positive review! We hope you continue to enjoy your studies with us.
The staff are so supporting they reply to my emails at any time of the day even over the holidays!
I’ve had a great time at this uni and think that it has great facilities and teaching staff with a good social side as well!
The support and opportunities that MMU provides is unprecedented, despite being constantly undermined by the UoM bring just down the road
Manchester metropolitan university is truly amazing, i study Fashion business and management and i am very happy with the support i get from tutors daily! The campus is fun and big and there are like a ton of societies! The tutors are the biggest helpers and im super impressed with the education! Help is available everywhere through student union and everyone is super understanding!
Everything you could want out of a uni, a 24/7 library cause they know students don't sleep! The union bar is great and there are so many societies to be part of!
Manchester met is fab best uni in the country easy peasy
Lots of space to study in library and Brooks building. Library is really good, 24/7. Has so far had all the books I need. Not many societies. Only religious ones, music ones or political ones. Poorly advertised - saying they have hundreds. They do, but hundreds if you're religious or love politics. Wifi is good. However it takes about 15 tries to download a powerpoint because it can't "get a secure connection".
Thank you for your review! If we do not have a society in the area you are interested in, have you thought about setting up your own? This is something that the Student Union offer, and you can contact them at theunion@mmu.ac.uk if you are interested.
The facilities are ok and the wifi works the majority of the time. The biggest let down about the University is the students and the level of teaching. Throughout my time at MMU I did not learn anything more than what I already knew, a vast amount of the lectures are useless and the degrees they offer are not specific enough to be useful after University. I have resorted to taking my degree off of my CV as it has only impeded by job searching rather than improve it. Please do not go to this University. You will regret it.
I'm really sorry to hear this. We do regularly review our courses, to make sure that our graduates are employable for both the private and public sectors. If you graduated within the last three years and are looking for work, then you will still have access to our careers and employability service. They can offer you careers advice through their online careers service or over a face to face appointment. They also work with local employers who are look to recruit graduates from MMU, which can be really beneficial if you are looking for work within the Greater Manchester area.
Great uni. Shame the student halls are fully of power hungry security but hey ho that's life
all ok. happy with the campus, lots of diversity
Great uni! I really recommend it, especially the Business School! 10/10!
Good wifi, library is amazing - so useful for different needs of all students such as the quiet zone, group zone, etc
Great community and learning environment
Big campus, at first difficult to navigate but some buildings are very modern but the Business school does not have heating.
I don't really use the students union because it's bit rubbish. I just go to my communal hub in my accommodation in First Street
I am going manchester metropolitan university
Great for mature students. Lots of support. Library staff are amazingly helpful.
Love my campus, I'm at the Birley campus which is only 2 years old. Gorgeous building with lots of facilities to help me on my course. Great student union, beautiful building with plenty to do/get involved in.
No complaints actually, though marking can be slow and feedback shoddy
The wifi in university is very temperamental, but it does work when it connects. They have very good facilities and clubs/societies with lots of choice and good prices, but the library does need to be bigger!!
Never tried the sports or societies as none appealed to me. Internet goes off as you move about the building you study in and sometimes doesn't load back up. Big library and spaces to do work. Workshops for engineering students are no where near big enough. And printers always seem to break/not do as you want. Student union has a good shop and coffee area. Bar was okay for students freshers night when I went but the hall space seems too small to hold the open fairs
Very good nightlife cheap Union etc
So far so good, a few issues at the beginning of the course with time tabling and such but once they were swiftly dealt with it has been very good.
They don't have a men's GAA team which was a shock!
Enjoying the uni so far. Haven't joined any societies, but there seems to be a huge range to suit different interests - students can start their own too. Location is excellent - there are so many shops, bars, restaurants, & the MMU library around so you rarely need to go to the city centre! The only con I can immediately think of is the Wifi not working in some areas of the Business School. Overall it's a lively uni in a great location.
Such a great university experience
All the facilities appear to be new and built for purpose and the facilities are very useful, however the Internet services are unreliable and this wouldn't be a huge deal except that registering requires you to be connected to the student wifi and the computers to register are often busy. The news that the university have moved the homeless who were finding shelter under the nearby underpass was saddening as I would rather not support a university who somehow cannot afford to leave homeless people under an underpass who were simply trying to get by despite the high tuition fees that they have no issue enforcing
Some societies could do more things that aren't costume and fancy dress related, but everyone is really friendly. The mixture of old and new elements of the buildings such as Grosvenor and Benzie makes you realise the effort they put in to put Manchester on the map for university education. You'll get your money's worth for sure!
Modern and full of the latest equipment to help enhance education
Good facilities and lecturers, Helpful task and good atmosphere.
Halls terrible, wifi doesnt work properly
Staff are always welcome and ready to help.
Love the career focus and in particular jobs4students offers really valuable experience for students
I attend the Manchester school of art at MMU and it is by far some of the best facilities at university level in the uk. My course allows me to take a much more personal approach to my work instead replicating what others think I should be creating much like many of the British art schools.
Great uni, in a great diverse city, with something for everyone 24/7
Manchester is the perfect place to be as a student! Couldn't think of anywhere Id rather study!
I love Man Met, I think it's a great uni in a lively city. The opportunities for work in creative areas doesn't get much better than here, most of the buildings are modern and have a great atmosphere!
Most sustainable and environmentally university with an excellend academic crew. Giving students any kinds of supports from employability and future careers to achieveing the best possible academic excellence
The only thing that's bad about the university campus is the homeless people in the middle (which sounds awful) but it's only because they shout abuse at students when they're drunk. Other than the few that do that the majority of them are lovely. There are loads of societies to join (more than 100) so there's something for everyone there and they host so many social events so there's always something to do. The wifi is pretty good and easy to connect to. There's not really any fuss and it is a pretty good speedy connection.
I'm still in induction week so don't know exactly what it's like yet but from what I've seen so far it's good.
The birley campus is brilliant. Rooms easy to find and everything is very modern
I live in Cambridge halls which for £100 pound a week was disgusting we had mice for the best part of 2 mouths and every member of my lecturing staff where as helpful as a chocolate tea pot. The only positive thing I can say about the university is the location in the city.
24 hour libary with 100s of computers. Say no more! Great enthusiastic tutors too!
I really enjoy being a student at Manchester metropolitan university. I have had a really good two years here with the course being organised well and meeting lots of good friends through the uni. The student union is in a good location to the uni and is massively improved from last year. The wifi and Internet faculties on campus are really good and there's lots of places for you to get access to a computer within the campus and especially within the library. This campus is not particularly big which makes it easier to get around and the business school (where I study) is a really good place to study and be taught.
These modern lectures are the perfect setting for a romance to blossom and that's what happened to me. Unforgettable experience
There are very few societies outside of sports societies, the gym's free weights room is abysmal, considering the price for membership. University WiFi is alright in certain areas. The food from the cafeteria leaves a lot to be desired. My course (primary education) is run terribly, I would not recommend it to anyone. The lecturers haven't got a clue
mmu needs to concentrate more on the Crewe campus rather than central Manchester
Students union is to expensive
extremely satisfied!!!
I'm from Manchester anyway but I always wanted to move away to study but with having a young family this wasn't possible. MMU was my first choice and I'm very happy. The university has offered great support when needed due to family issues, the transport networks around the university are excellent and allow me to commute dayly, the library is open 24/7 (I don't use this service as I travel an hour dayly, but I think this is fantastic for students living in halls!) If your interested in sustainable living then this university is great for recycling. The best thing of all though is the loyalty discount (I think its called!) That if you do your undergraduate degree there and carry on to do your masters and ph.D then there is a 70% discount on tuition fees!! Overall I think MMU is a fantastic university with very supportive staff and I wouldn't go anywhere else to continue my education!
Cons?
None!
Pretty cool - law student
Great area, great teachers who listen to your suggestions, great new facilities and new union, plenty of advice and help available and just good in general
Cons?
Can get very busy in certain parts of the uni and library.
