As a student, Manchester Metropolitan University offers a friendly and supportive environment with modern facilities and a strong focus on practical learning, making it easier to gain real-world skills alongside your degree. The location in Manchester adds a lot to the experience, with plenty of social life, job opportunities, and things to do outside of uni. However, you might find large class sizes in some courses, and the university doesn’t have the same prestige as higher-ranked institutions, meaning you may need to put in extra effort to stand out when applying for competitive jobs.

Hi there,
Thank you for your query and interest in Manchester Metropoltan University.
With regards to career prospects and opportunities, many of our graduates begin their careers in new product development. You could work in a variety of roles across the food and nutrition industry though, in areas such as quality and food safety, food manufacturing, food marketing and technical management. Some of the roles you could pursue include food production manager, food technologist, consumer care manager, technical manager, food buyer, and legal compliance officer.
With regards to the practical and theoretical saspects of the course, there is a balance. You’ll have days with a mix of lectures, seminars and practical sessions (such as product development in our food technology laboratories), so that you develop technical skills as well as academic knowledge of food science and in other seminar sessions/workshops, you’ll learn how to promote food safety through quality management systems, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). This is so that you understand how to meet the legal responsibilities of food business operations in producing safe products, as well as the quality requirements of your customers. I can confirm that there will however be no practical assessment with 95% being assessed via coursework and 5% being assessed by examination.

As an international student, i love studying here, the university is great and offers so much.
The teachers that I met are quite lovely and is constantly providing support
So far my university experience has been great. It was very new to me and foreign but it was quite welcoming and pretty easy to get used to. The teachers are very nice and are always there for support. I’m glad I came to this university compared to others.
My time at uni has played a big role in my development, both personally and professionally. Studying Fashion Business and Management has helped me understand the industry from a business perspective, especially how brands connect with consumers and operate in a digital space. I’ve really valued the practical side of the course, as it’s given me the chance to work on real-world style projects, improving my confidence in researching, analysing, and making decisions. It’s also pushed me to become more independent, as I’ve had to manage deadlines and stay organised. Overall, uni has made me more confident, resilient, and prepared for a career in the fashion industry.
So far I’ve enjoyed my university experience and the guidance of my tutors. My favourite is meeting cool people from my course and others who enjoy the same hobbies as me. Societies are well organised and are great atmosphere!
I have enjoyed my course and what I learn! But I’ve also been able to access non academic resources that have aided my learning and wellbeing as a student and this has been great. The tutors are nice and willing to help which is always good.
My experience as an international postgraduate student has been great! The careers service is very helpful and I’ve been able to land a summer internship via the jobs4students portal and they’ve been v helpful in clearing any questions or just providing support.
The timing of career days is always on Wednesday which I have lectures. Need variety schedules
I’m having a great time and love the campus and the facilities, nothing negotiable to say. The opportunities they have from the campus especially with things like go global week
I had a rocky start to my uni experience 1st year I really struggled being in student accommodation, I got a job through jobs for students through uni and it massively improved my experience, I had something to do in my downtime and in sociable hours, second year moving into a private house with friends made my year go so much quicker and drastically improved my experience I feel that I am at uni a lot compared to other degrees but it definitely makes me think I’m getting more from my degree!! I also like to make use of the gym and spin classes I think they’re a really good idea
it’s a great experience to be at manmet
The university is a very welcoming place, i feel safe and ensured.
My course has been enjoyable, staff helpful. The campus easily accessible and lots of nice places to study. So many societies and socials.
I am loving my time at uni! However I am in Geoffrey mention building for most lectures and this could use some updates. I’d also love to see more green spaces and nature as well as food outlets but other than that great!
I have really enjoyed my experience at MMU, the society’s are very good i’m apart of radio and it’s really nice, my course is good and i really enjoy. Wish the student union was maybe a bit cheaper for meal deals but other than that is good.
Teachers are good Toilets sometimes dirty
lovely clean safe university with great staff lots of extra curricular activities that are offered
Man Met has been so helpful with our tutor groups, excellent resources and with extreme support throughout assignments.
The staff are great and the buildings are all really nice. Student accommodation is really good as well
Had a really good experience at mmu
I had a really good experience for the past 3 years i would recommend to it more people
Best uni ever, loved the experience

I really enjoy being on campus, I feel safe and feel happy. I feel like it’s a good place for me to also come and do some self studying and really lock in especially when it’s hot.
It’s a good university but could definitely improve on wellbeing, support with work and student union events
I enjoy the university campus and i believe that the university provides a wide range of opportunities and activities for students.
I really like this University, it offers a wide range of activities and support which is great! I do think the Union should be a bit more interactive, especially The Salutation on campus. It would be great if it was a bit busier and had things going on for the students.
Really nice university, good facilities and lots of activities and events on throughout the whole academic year. Lots of help for career and job advice
Very nice uni with nice parks and green soaces
It’s friendly and fun to be in!
Can we get better WiFi please, apart from that I love uni.
modern facilities, good Lecturers, good technology
Its best university and i feel confident that i chose this university
When applying for university’s, I only applied for MMU as I saw all the great support network that was available for me. Since attending MMU since September, these facilities have not dissapointed. I love the campus, it’s very sociable and the campus security walking around allows me to feel protected. When I attended the societies fair there were endless amounts to choose from which I think is amazing as there are so many different characters that attend uni. I’m obsessed with the student unions they all have a different vibe which is great. Overall 10/10 I love learning here i never want it to end!
Really good, wifi could be better but everything else it great.
Amazing university with the most caring staff in the UK
Super welcoming community, societies, people. Suuuuper diverse i love it
My experience at Manchester Metropolitan University has been a really positive one overall. The university offers a supportive and inclusive environment, with lecturers who are knowledgeable and approachable. I’ve found that many staff genuinely care about student success and are willing to provide guidance when needed. The facilities are modern and well equipped, especially the library and study spaces, which make it easier to stay focused and productive. The campus itself is also in a great location, right in the heart of Manchester, which adds to the overall student experience. There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities, which helps with both personal development and meeting new people. However, like any university, there can sometimes be delays in communication or administrative processes, and there’s also WiFi issues, but these issues are usually resolved. Overall, MMU provides a good balance of academic support and social opportunities
General experience of the university is very good. Tutors and staff very engaging and supportive. Facilities in terms of building, food room are very good however toilets can be very crammed and uncomfortable/not cleaned regularly enough.
Wonderful uni in a wonderful city
I find that Manchester Metropolitan University is very helpful and provides us with lots of opportunities regarding careers and developing employability and academic skills. They are also very supportive in terms of wellbeing and inclusion and provide lots of help to those that need it. The only issue which comes to mind is the WiFi, as it can be inconsistent and sometimes does not work very well, but most of the time it works fine.
Iv had a really good time at mmu and I am coming to the end of my journey now - netball society is really good and has weekly events that we enjoy
A great university with a diverse range of opportunities and support. It would be beneficial to have more inclusion of apprentices in wider scope activities however it can be tailored more to full time students.
We love MMU, it’s so good. The people are amazing. The only thing is that timetables are not that great for most courses. For example, I am only in Thursday and Friday - the Friday being 9am-7pm. I wish this was different as it demotivates me. Other than that, I’ve had a great experience and met lots of great friends.
I’ve loved my experience at mmu, the people are so friendly and the opportunities are endless!
The university has lots of great facilities for students which aid professional development. Their are lots of study spaces making the university grounds efficient for working.
I have really enjoyed my experience at the University as a first year student, I have settled in well and adapted to the change well. The environment is very welcoming and everyone is useful in supporting new students.
Wifi is not the greatest but the university has optimal facilities
I don’t have outstanding experiences of the uni but I also don’t have anything negative. Overall a good university with good support.
Great university for professional development, learning and social skills.
Great uni lots to offer, my course is great and lecturers very helpful and easy to understand
Nice experience overall and very integrated Best acs in the world and very versatile
Starting here in year one was an very nice and well intergarted well
great facilities but we need charging points in our lectures (geoffrey manton building). humanities building in general just needs more support financially please
Great facilities but lecture theatres could install some charging points
I absolutely love MMU. It provides a robust education experience for learning, community, academic support, internships, networks and fun. The facilities are modern and some of the lecturers are really good.
Resources of the Uni are great and facilities are also accessible and new
The sports societies are really inclusive and a big part of my uni experience, the union also gives loads of up to date information and has lots of events to help meet new people!! some members of staff really go above and beyond to help and I can tell that they really want the best for us ⭐️
Teachers and organisation is not good
University is lots of fun and my tutors are nice !
Suprised how this wonderful university isnt the most talked about, i came with much expectations and its safe to say they were not only met but exceeded
It’s a great experience for me and my future
My experience as an international student at Manchester Metropolitan University has been very positive. The campus and facilities are modern, well-maintained, and provide excellent spaces for studying as well as relaxing between classes. The university also offers a good range of clubs and societies, which makes it easy to meet new people and feel part of a diverse and welcoming community. The Students’ Union regularly organizes engaging events and clearly works to represent student interests. The careers service is also helpful and provides useful guidance on job opportunities, CV preparation, and employability skills. In addition, the internet and Wi-Fi services across the campus are very reliable and fast, which makes studying, research, and online learning much more convenient for students. Overall, the university provides a supportive and comfortable environment for students from different backgrounds.
Overall everything is great and the tutors and the overall team are very helpful.
Overall experience is good and lectures are quite interesting and productive which shaping me for my future experience.
The uni facilities are really nice and there are great places to study and socialise.
I have really enjoyed studying at this university. It has offered me experiences and work experiences that I have never been able to get without the services here. I really enjoyed studying being at this university as I have felt the support through everywhere and everywhere department. The WiFi was horrenduous this year if I’m being honest as I had to use my data for most of the time. But that was the only negative at university. I liked the activities this year and how engaging the fairs were and it actually makes me miss university
Everything was jus awesome and professors and teaching is just as awesome
Everything is Very good and good performance in overall
Wonderful university with great lectures and staff best decision I mage was coming to Manchester metropolitan and I wouldn’t regret my decision at all very welcoming society’s to help you find you friend group and involving yourself in sports society’s especially keeping you fit
I am in my second year at university, it is pretty great. I do think that there could be cheaper food/drink options on campus as everything feels so expensive.
I have loved going to manchester met, its so inclusive and there are so many societies i can join!
My uni experience has been really fun, learning new modules in relation to a course I’m enthusiastic for. And meeting new friends etc.
My experience at the university has been great. The facilities are good and the student life is brilliant including the options for socials and study spaces.
I have enjoyed the last 2 years I have been at Manchester Metropolitan University, the opportunities the university provides for us as students, being abroad or internal job and placement opportunities as well as summer school and spring school. The university is a good place to be in and provides a lot of different facilities
My experience has been very positive at the university so far and I have found the staff on my course to be very helpful. Also the staff from the sports team to be very helpful aswell as they helped me set up a society.
The university offer a wide range of amazing facilities, the food seating areas and the Costa, all the staff and people who are in the university are lovely and helpful.

I really enjoy my course, the tutors, the multiple food options I feel like there are friendly faces everywhere. The support is amazing and the wifi always is available
As an international students the services are good but their are some areas where it needs improvement like, some extra benefits which can help to international students.i dont have any specific statement to write but could give ideas on it in future
The university is multicultural with a range of people from different ethnicities and backgrounds being a part of it.This allows for individuals to get a insight into these different categories which leads to better understanding. There are many societies which allow for new friendships to be built fostering a better, friendly environment and improving communication skills of individuals. This also helps Individuals overcome things like social anxiety. There are a range of clubs to participate in including sports like badminton and football which contribute to better physical and mental health. The clubs are very friendly and welcoming.Morevover, the university has 24/7 mental health support available for students prioritising their well being. The staff are ambitious and very supportive of students and their education. The university has a good vibe to it.No bullying is seen around the university with students being very mature and considerate.Overall, the university’s environment is lovely
Since September, I have been fully engaged in my studies and have receive plenty of support throughout my studies and some personal issues too. 100%
Yes it a great uni and lots of support.
Great teachers Mental health days Very good learning resources and study spaces
Staff were overall really helpful. Modules are well put together and engaging. Good range of food as well
I believe that this university is excellent and the teachers are great, they explain things really well and my course has been excellent so far.
The union has some good things that are on but nothing amazing. I have used the career services once and it was really helpful. I personally have never been part of a club or society but know that there is a lot on offer. Wi-Fi is always good.
Very good uni I love going to MMU
I really enjoy university and my course. I have made some great friends along the way and have always felt a warm, hospitable environment from my lecturers and peers. I do primary teaching and the placement team have done an amazing job at locating the perfect placement for me.

i really enjoy my course and have made new friends. i enjoy my lessons and lectures and feel supported by my teachers.
very good university. staff is very talented and supportive
I have had a good experience living at Vita Student so far. The building is clean, safe, and the facilities are well maintained, which makes the environment comfortable for students. The location is also very convenient, as it is close to both the university and the train station, making daily travel much easier. I also appreciate the good soundproofing, which gives students from different backgrounds and lifestyles more privacy. Overall, it is a comfortable place to live and study.🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
I’m in first year and so far my experience has been good
Overall nice clean modern campus. Could do with more welcoming social areas. Definitely need a tour of all the buildings because I don't know much about what they all offer. Food services are expensive even though they claim to be cheaper than on the high street. Welcome events were good, lots of freebies. The wellbeing service should be improved and more accessible as there is a long waiting list. Careers fair should be more active, I feel like a lot of services you have to reach out to yourself and they take a long time to process requests.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Our Careers Hub is the best place to go for students looking for further career opportunities, internships, and volunteering opportunities.
