Entry requirements for Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies and Environmental Sciences at The University of Manchester

Entry requirements are the formal requirements students need to meet to be considered for a place on a university course. But, each year many universities accept students with lower grades. The bar chart below shows the actual UCAS tariff points of students currently on this course.

Required subjects for Environmental Science with an Integrated Foundation Year BSc at The University of Manchester

Students are accepted from a wide range of educational backgrounds and all applications are considered on their individual merits. Decisions are based on the application as a whole - including the qualifications, the personal statement, and the referee's comments. The following must therefore be viewed only as general guide. Our entry requirements vary depending on the subjects being taken at A-level. Typically, we would be looking for: - BBC, where a student has three relevant subjects - BBB, where a student has two relevant subjects - ABB, where a student has one relevant subject The subjects considered to be relevant are Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, Geography, and Statistics. If you are unsure whether you would be considered with your qualifications/predictions, we would encourage you to contact us before making an application. In all cases we only offer places to applicants if we are convinced that they have the academic potential and the high level of motivation that is needed to be successful on the Integrated Foundation Year and on their chosen degree programme. To help us make our decision, applicants may be asked to attend an Academic Assessment. Practical skills are a crucial part of science education and therefore there will be a requirement to pass the practical element of any science A-level taken. Where applicants are applying for science and related degrees, this is likely to be made explicit in the offers you will receive.

Due to strikes and the pandemic I have received very little face to face teaching this year I understand this is out of their control, the teaching I did receive was good. However the course is not that enjoyable as I enrolled on a human geography course, being told I can pick modules of my choice human or physical. However you can only pick 1 module the other 5 are set, of these over half are physical which doesn’t interest me. read more

Human Geography at Manchester is really rubbish, there are not a lot of optional modules...they mainly cater for physical geography and there isn't an even split in human and physical modules. The fieldtrip in second year is amazing -i got to go to Cuba! Geography is really clique and not diverse at all, like 95% of the same people in terms of race and class. read more

My course is really interesting since there’s such a variety of things to learn but what I really like is that after first year you can choose what it is that you really enjoy the most and study that in more details in second and third year. I had a few problems with lecturers not responding to emails but you can always ask them in person instead if it’s not urgent. read more
