Middlesbrough is a town with an impressive industrial heritage. Recently it has seen a lot of redevelopment and is home to the famous Riverside Stadium where the Boro play. Students of Teesside University can expect to be well catered for.

Nightclubs
The nightlife in Middlesbrough is extremely good; there’s something going on pretty much every night of the week. The Empire is the biggest club in town, Go Ninja at Spensley’s Emporium is a popular mid-week student night and for indie music, head to Creeps.

Pubs
Partly pedestrianised, Southfield Road runs through the campus and has plenty of pubs and bars. You’ll see students going back and forth from the Student Union to the pubs when there is a night on at the SU. Dickens Inn and The Southfield are some of the favourites.
Public Transport
You’ll find that pretty much everything is within walking distance but there are also Stagecoach buses that run, and the no. 36 runs around central Teesside. You won’t need a car unless you want to explore the surrounding area. To get out of town, Middlesbrough is well connected by road and rail. Middlesbrough is 30 minutes from Darlington Station, which operates direct services to London and Edinburgh. The TransPennine Express runs between Middlesbrough and Newcastle, York, Leeds, Manchester, Manchester Airport and Liverpool.

Shopping
Right next to campus, there are supermarkets and three shopping centres, making shopping for necessities incredibly convenient. Aside from the high street chains, Middlesbrough offers fantastic homegrown and independent retailers. Baker Street has been named as the cool independent quarter, whilst Linthorpe Central Road is where to head if you fancy some window shopping at designer boutiques.

ARC, Stockton Arts Centre, is a superb venue that puts on comedy, drama, dance, visual arts, music, poetry and exhibitions. They also host workshops and creative activities so it's well worth keeping an eye on their upcoming events programme. Student discounts are widely available too!

The Dorman Museum is a local and social museum located in Linthorpe Road right in the heart of Middlesbrough. It has 8 exhibition areas and 3 gallery spaces and has free admission! One of Middlesbrough’s most famous residents is explorer Captain Cook. You can find out about his life and adventures at The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum.

Theatre and Cinema
Middlesbrough Theatre puts on a varied and exciting programme of productions all year round, from drama and amateur performances to comedy and pantomimes. If catching a film is more up your street, then you are in luck as there are 3 cinemas within walking distance of the campus!

This town is dump...
This town is dumpster fire. It full of crime and misery all under a nice blanket of smoke thanks to the industrial nightmare in the outskirts. It's probably the ugliest place I've ever been other than the University the town looks like it's stuck in timeloop to the 1980s and not the cool way the depressing awful way. There isn't much for students to do but go to the mall and the lame pubs but hey if you're into tabletop games there's like 3 shops dedicated to it, if you're not too bad. read more

It's cheap becaus...
It's cheap because it's a dump. Renting houses is cheap but make sure you have contents insurance and something to fight off rats. Middlesbrough is awful, full of scumbags and druggies, can't go out alone. Albert park is well known for the number of rapes that occur there. Nowhere to go and nothing to do unless you have a car or want to spend loads on transport. Buses are expensive, trains never run on time/show up at all. Loads of pubs and clubs so at least you can drink until you no longer regret choosing this uni. read more

For a student the...
For a student there are a few things that they need to consider when they come to Middlesbrough: - very cheap drinks. Ok so the su might not be the cheapest place on earth but they do have good deals. Ts1, Spensleys and flares are also pretty damn cheap... -the parmo! Confused? I was too. It's it the speciality of Middlesbrough. A breadcrumbed chicken breast with bechamel sauce and cheese. The perfect food for the walk home after a night out. - everything is conveniently placed. Bus station in town. Rail station at the other end of town. - royal china on princes road. read more
Cons?
Everyone slags Middlesbrough off like there is no tomorrow. "Full of druggies.." It's really not, but it will never really shake the label that it has been given. Just like everywhere there are people that will take drugs and those that won't. I'm not saying it's perfect.
It does look a little run down in places. Ok I'm being kind there. Dilapidated and derelict may be more accurate terms - bug like anywhere it's not all like that....
