9 Linguistics reviews at University of York
English Language and Linguistics, BA Hons
I have mixed feelings about English at York. I had a great personal tutor, and the teachers that I did click with were amazing and changed my education experience. Very high quality teaching on the most part, which you would expect since York is in the top 10 for English. Less snobby or traditional than Durham or Oxbridge but the department still work you very hard. However, there needs to be more literature diversity on the course. You cannot say you a diverse course and shove anything that isn't Western European literature into a post-colonial module and call it a day. The department prides itself on having lots of options to study what you would like but no one I know on the course was satisfied with the options we were given. Most modules also require you to read two books a week, that is if you haven't read all the books before term starts, which is too much. You can't focus on a book and really enjoy it. But overall, a very good course, just be prepared!
