Chinese Studies, BA HonsBy member464617 On 5th December 21
We studied Chinese language, history, culture, philosophy etc. There is a super Chinese library! The university has strong links to China, Chinese lecturers (great for language) and many Chinese students.
Chinese Studies, BA HonsBy Pwcca On 4th July 17
The course was poorly planned and structured, to the extent that it felt more like a Religious Studies programme than a Chinese Studies programme. Personal tutor/dissertation supervisor was useless....he wa never available, never responsive, and never very helpful in the rare occasions he did respond...resulting in our dissertations needing to be submitted without his input or assistance. A complete shambles, and rather descriptive of the entire duration of the programme. The Chinese language modules are similarly poorly executed. During the final year, in what was meant to be Advanced/further Advanced Chinese, the level thought was actually Intermediate level.....with no focus on grammar, speaking, or listening. You would benefit more from using Duolingo to teach yourself Mandarin Chinese than rely on UWTSD lecturers....and it's much cheaper. If anyone wants to follow this subject direction, and actually learn something.... then bypass this uni and choose another option.
