History and Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By snapdragon-wheels On 10th June 18Japanese is great. History course wasn’t as advertised. If I wanted to do the same five white guys over and over again I would just redo my GCSEs.
Film Studies and Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member1060749 On 6th July 21It was great, going to Japan was the highlight even throughout the pandemic. My tutors were always happy to help with any qualms and the course content was always interesting and engaging.
Anthropology and Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member536764 On 30th December 20Lectures are centred more around the feminist and various left wing ideologies of the lecturers than any real study of Japanese culture. You'll be taught about Japanese culture mainly by people who tried and failed to settle in Japan.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member6876453 On 28th December 20This course is beyond a joke. Seriously unpleasant attitudes from some of the staff. Constant problems. Anyone who criticises it can expect unfair treatment.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By Jon55 On 28th December 20AVOID THIS COURSE! The course coordinator seems to have some kind of personality disorder and is very abusive. Complaints are constantly submitted by students and yet the university fails to act?? It is absolutely shameful.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member453143 On 15th December 20This Japanese studies course is not worth the money you're paying in tuition. Your language skills will not be developed, and instead, you will spend the majority of your time completing tasks that do not develop your skills. For example, in the final year, during the midst of a pandemic, our assessments have been focused on completing group work, such as, study plans. We are final year students, I think we have figured out how to study by now. Why are we being graded on group study plans? Why are we being graded on group work? You barely get any classroom time and the assessments do not make sense. You will reach a much higher level by studying by yourself & or taking private lessons, which will cost less too. If I could, I would switch universities.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member852731 On 1st December 20The organisers of this course openly refuse to abide by university regulations. They'll explain to you why they think the regulations are wrong, and if you complain you can expect to be bullied from the course.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member1351581 On 16th October 20DO NOT study this course. The course coordinator is a complete psycho.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member750097 On 28th July 20No point reviewing this as it will close in the near future if the university has any sense at all.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member450058 On 26th July 20Badly organised. Best pretend not to notice otherwise Hanako Fujino will fly into a rage and accuse you of being "abusive".
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member449948 On 18th July 20Very badly organised. Some of the culture modules are OK but overall its very poor.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By Dave4453 On 16th July 20Terrible. The course coordinator has a really bad attitudes and is constantly "revamping" half decent modules into badly organised fiascoes.
Japanese Studies, BA Hons
By member949462 On 21st June 20The course coordinator, Hanako Fujino, is completely unfit for the role. Every year she is the subject of complaints yet nothing is ever done.
