I would have expected more practical work up until graduation, to properly prepare undergraduates for placements/work post-grad. It is quite fortunate that I am fond of essay writing and academic pieces, otherwise I would not have made it to second year. The teaching thus far has been a mixed bag; I have had lecturers who radiated enthusiasm and their love for their craft shone through in each and every lecture. Other lecturers have been disappointing; you expect far more than two hours of someone standing behind a computer inaudibly reading from a powerpoint presentation. I would have thought that more care would have been taken in the application process, to ensure that this calibre of candidate was weeded out long before they set foot in a lecture theatre. It is still an enjoyable course, despite this. The likes of Mark Davenport, Lisa Hardisty and Tom Watson have definitely made the time spent here worthwhile. Very dedicated and skilled educators, who do more than is expected.
