Read Lonsdale College Reviews
Lonsdale college is a really wonderful college! It's got something for everyone and is actually a good value for money! The flats are cleaned on a daily basis by the amazingly friendly cleaners who do a great job! And the internet and wifi is also really fast and always accessible... It's never a struggle with the internet
You share the kitchen with 7 other people, there is little space and only 2 small fridges and freezers, additional are not allowed unless for medical reasons. So if you have messy flatmates you're doomed. Little privacy as well. And Wi-Fi is as easy to find as water on Sahara desert... don't get me started on phone reception...
The rooms are nice enough, fairly large. Fairly social college and throws good parties. However one of the worst locations on campus and each flat only has a kitchen (with one table) for people to socialise in, which is annoying
At Lonsdale I really think you're paying for the social life and experience. Lonsdale definitely hosts the best events on campus and I'd rather have that than the best accommodation. Don't get me wrong, the accommodation isn't horrible, it's definitely decent, but I think it's slightly overpriced. As a fresher though, I wouldn't have joined any other college - Lonsdale has definitely given me the best freshers experience socially on campus.
5 mins to De Montfort and about 5-10 mins to the city centre with loads of little food and clothes shops just up the road - I couldn't have asked for a better location. It's small so it's not as much as a party halls compared to the larger accomodations. It's been well renovated and they have just put in a common room with a tv and table football. The company Unite Students are very helpful and are an easy phone call away over the weekend or in the evenings when no one is at reception if anything breaks or something goes wrong.
Accommodation looks very nice, and really nice views from the window but the accommodation is a fair walk from some lecture areas on main campus. There was no social spaces besides the bar and our house was mainly full of international third year students who complained if we made the slightest noise
Lonsdale is one of the founding colleges of the university and definitely has a closer knit community than a lot of the other colleges. Certainly lives up to its reputation as the party college and freshers is actually amazing :D
very good halls. Large amount of community spirit that makes you feel part of something. my first year was with friends, then I decided to stay on campus for my second year. Although my flat mates this year aren't very sociable, I still feel a part of the college and rarely lonely due to the many social events (not all to do with drinking). Good sized room with lovely en suite.
If you don't like partying, then this college has no time for you. It wasn't even any of my accommodation choices yet I'm constantly told if I don't like the noise i shouldn't have picked the college. Management poor with dealing with noise complaints, complained all year and nothing at all done about it. A good mile away from most of the stuff on campus; no social space, just a kitchen, rare that a facility in the kitchen works properly which of course we'll be charged for under the assumption that we broke it. Overall a nightmare to live in.
Lonsdale is on the edge of campus - was nice having a home away from lecture halls. However it was very expensive for what it was. The shower made the bathroom soaking wet and there is no social space other than the kitchen - would be nice to have a sofa or two.
Lonsdale's genuinely a nice place to live. So much so, in fact, that I've opted to live there again next year. With catered accommodation on top of that, it won't leave you with an awful lot to do anything, but that's fine - you're too far away from it all anyway. Despite the trek into 'proper campus' and the cost, Lonsdale accommodation is new, clean and homely. There's always hot water, there's ample space in and around the desk area to work and play, and you'll be surrounded by lots of trees and grass and patios if you're into all that stuff. The bar's a 60 second walk away and Dominos deliver more or less to your doorstep. Would recommend.
It was a nice room but not worth the amount I paid. Location is too far away from central campus and lectures. Cleaners were none exsistent although it could have jest been our cleaner that was especially lazy. No social area to sit with friends other than kitchen. Was a good environment to meet new people as the houses have 6 flats in so you get to know everyone. Would suggest county or bowland standard
nice and quite in the day - by far the best college for good nights out and parties - the Lonsdale bar is amazing in freshers week but a bit too quite in normal term time just because of where it is. Carmel and furness are by far the worst colleges for sure so just avoid those and you will have an amazing time!
