Brickworks was ok. I think the reception staff were not as welcoming and helpful as you'd assume. Was difficult to socialise with others without having security annoyed. Maintenance was really good. Room was not worth the money at all.

Pretty good time and place to stay for my first year
The place is spacious but there are a few things that need repairing in my flat. Only issue is on a night as you can hear doors from other flats opening and closing. It’s kept me awake a few times and gets on your nerves after a while

Have stayed here for a few years and there is nothing really that can be faulted. Great social facilities,helpful staff and any issues quickly fixed. Overall would recommend.

I stayed at the Brickworks my first year (as I wasn’t able to stay for my second year - and probably wouldn’t have chose this accommodation had I known that). It’s a big clean space to move into and there are lots of opportunities to meet new people in common areas, but these weren’t common when we first moved in. If you’re staying in block C, you’re getting real value for money, but block A and B rooms aren’t worth the same as block C. Day staff are lovely, very friendly and willing to help, and so are a couple of the security guards. However some of the security guards are rude and love having power over the residents. No parking on site, and staff recommend parking nearby where multiple cars have been keyed. Broken fridge when we moved in, since broken more due to bad fix and hasn’t been replaced since November. Overall, not value for money but still one of the nicest in York. Only beat by Coal Yard in my opinion.

I have enjoyed staying in the Brickworks and it was a nice location for my 1st year, as they were quite a few other people from my course in the same accommodation. The location is really handy for grocery shopping, heading into town and University.

Aside from the obvious COVID-19 restrictions in place, me and my partner's experience at the Brickworks has been very positive. We opted to live in a studio flat, which was perfect as we really wanted our own space having lived in a shared house the year prior. We have been able to make this flat our own home, as I am permanently based in York now. The provision of social spaces is what drew us in to choose halls as opposed to a normal flat, and while the spaces themselves are great, we have yet to use them due to the fact that COVID-19 still unfortunately exists, which is annoying considering how much we pay which I assume includes upkeep, but we understand and have written an enquiry to IQ regarding this. Another draw to this place was that it has car parking, which we have used and have had our car kept very safe. As well as this, the staff are hugely friendly and get to know us residents really well. Would definitely recommend Brickworks.
