If you require water and electricity as a basic need maybe this place isn't for you. Water is switched off weekly and scheduled power cuts mean we're without power for long periods of time. The wifi is crap and patchy so you have to go on campus to get good wifi. The cleaners don't clean, so do it yourself The laundrette doesn't work, they've repainted it, thinking we'd not notice if our clothes are sopping wet after coming out of the dryer or that our clothes haven't been cleaned when taking them out of the washers. You'd be best of going to sketty quick wash with your laundry or taking it home to wash. Social aspect is great, everyone gets along and there are flat parties most nights. Having a pub on site is fab because it's cheap, however they offer a list of cocktails but barely know how to make one of them on the list. It's not worth the money. You'd be best off going into private halls and paying a similar price to living on campus - you'd get way more value for money
Extraordinarily cheap accommodation, although the necessity of a bus pass must be taken into account when you look at the price! Halls management do keep relatively on top of things and wifi is a surprisingly high speed for the average user on an up to date device! Cleaning staff are good so long as they are given the space to clean and socially it is a great place to live, with over 1,400 rooms on the site - although designated social spaces are rare unless you enjoy sitting at the kitchen table!
My first choice was to stay in Penmaen on the Swansea university campus in 2013. however, I was placed in the student village, and I do not regret a thing! The Social life is incredible, it's a great way to meet new people as the building is set out in a way where it's easy to mingle between floors and flats. Loved every minute!
Cheap accomodation which whilst lacks a bit of luxury, certainly delivers a great student experience. Everything you need on site - shop, bar, diner, laundrette, sports pitch, bike rack, car parking and regular buses to campus. Great social scene, lots of parties and events throughout the year. Located a bit further out of the city and the University campus, it does mean travel times are that bit longer, however the village is a very pleasant and safe place to live.
Loads went wrong in our house with the heaters and we had quite a few floods but they were all sorted within hours. Always have a security team patrolling..but so far away from uni. Unless you want a 45 minute walk in rainy Wales you have to buy a bus pass. With a bus pass though it's fine. Launderette was not okay. Just so old and depressing in places but a decent place to stay if you want value for money.
If you can deal with the bare minimum, 70% of the utilities not working and a slightly gloomy atmosphere to a house, then it's brilliant value for money. Otherwise, approach with caution (and bug spray. You will need it.)
The best halls to live in without a doubt. Easiest place to meet people and everyone is so friendly. Me and my friends are so incredibly sad to leave the village, we've made some incredible memories and had the best parties in this place!
Wonky pub is what I'm gonna miss most about being a second year, cleaners are abit funny about cleaning, will only do so if your kitchen/bathroom is relatively clean. Not really any communal social areas in the flats but landings are good for prinks, but benches in th summer are nice to chat with and BBQ on
The student village is a great student accommodation for socialising and for students with a budget. The rooms are fairly modern and good for the price. The only downside is the lack of a common room which would give students the opportunity to go away from their flat.
HSV is frankly disgusting. Whole place reeks of weed and mouldy food, there's no such thing as noise control even when it's 4am, the houses and flats are dated and dingy and you can only really get to it via bus unless you have a car as its up a big hill. The living area is just plastic chairs and a table and pretty much everything is broken including ovens and toilets. It may be cheap but it's really awful
