Some of the rooms are smaller than others by significant margins with no difference in price be sure to compare your own room with others as little to no help or compensation will be provided once you've moved in !!!
Simply put - Hamwic is loud, dirty and EXPENSIVE. It’s really a lottery on if you get good roommates. My classmate had very good friends but I got grouped with loud idiots that blasted music throughout the day and into the night. You know who you are, floor one. Had to complain several times to security. Kitchen sinks became unspeakably filthy very quickly, absolutely revolting. Common room downstairs is alright. Other floors are a joke. Bedrooms are alright. Cramped but sort of cosy. Mattresses are rock hard. Residence Team are good and security guards do a great job. Wi-Fi is abysmal but it’s free. Good location, only 10 minute-walk from university and close to city centre. Fire alarms go off at least once a week, whether 3pm or 3am. Rent is terrible. £140 p/w for a small room and tiny kitchen? I’d do better in private letting. If you’re looking for a quiet and tidy living, don’t go here. Find elsewhere. Go private.
Was a very friendly and social halls, rarely too loud but still good fun.
In the middle of everything, clean rooms and kitchens and a great place to live
If you're considering Hamwic, stop. Take a look at LibertyQuay, SuperUni or any other option than the accommodation provided by Solent. If you're on the first couple floors your bathroom will be completely filled with damp and mold within a week as the air ventilation system is incredibly ineffective People will stand in the hallways shouting at any hour of the night, or banging on doors for an absurd amount of time to wake a friend at 4am, often sprinting up and down the hall for whatever reason. If you're on the floor with the common room then you're f*****, people will stand outside your door shouting and swearing all night, some hilarious chap decided he'd bang on my door every night - never met the guy, he just chose my door for the sake of it. The stack of dirty plates and pans would get so high (taking up an unreasonable amount of the kitchen counters) and smell so foul I eventually started loading it into bin bags left on the floor, no one claimed anything.
Room are big and decent however the shower water doesn't stay hot for long.
Great location close to uni and city centre. Major plumbing issues. Have had a few electrical problems. They seem to house all the chavs in this hall, which is annoying when they pull the fire alarm at 3am, 4 times per term.
Nice layout, kitchens we'ren't that great, but great social atmosphere and management team were very helpful.
Very good location but rooms aren't big and quite expensive. En-suite is functional but seems susceptible to leaky plumbing.
Hamwic is fairly close to uni and the rooms are a somewhat decent size. Shower is awkward to use as it isn't centred (I sometimes have to stand up the wall to actually clean myself) Kitchen is pretty small considering how many people share (for me this is 10) - one fridge and one freezer doesn't seem like enough. Cupboard spacing is also a problem, you have to be one of the first to move in to get a big cupboard which actually fits your food in. Common room is okay. Chill rooms on each floor are great and well-needed. Maintenance was fairly poor - we went a whole week without hot water in our kitchen. Wifi is also pretty poor and can be pricey!!! Can be EXTREMELY loud. Cleaning is exceptional - cleaners are lovely too. Overall, definitely not worth paying over £120 p/week. If you're looking for a quiet halls, try DMA or Emily Davies.
Excellent love the quite floor. Just not having a switch in floor 5 common room.
This is okay if you find people you fit in with. There is a lot of people who want to make friends but this place is very much like school for clicks. I wouldn't advice it if you don't want to go out every single night drinking.
Very pricey for what you get, sometimes it seems like the cleaners only empty the bins and don't actually clean, the new parcel delivery system sucks (-1 star for management). The common room on each floor is pointless because there is nothing in there. The main one is okay, but always crowded and normally only football on the TV. So -2 stars for common room.
