WiFi tends to cut out sometimes which is pretty irritating. Social aspect has been sick, met loads of good friends and attended a lot of decent parties. Flat is a mixture of both boys and girls, different ethnicities and both home and international students. Location is the best being opposite Cabot circus and not far from either harbourside or most clubs so pretty good location. Also have another accommodation next to ours with a walkway between, they just need to make it so we don’t have to have a key to get into the other accommodation since the other accommodation can easily get into ours.
phoenix court is ok to live in, the location is really handy and all the staff I have spoken to are nice but the main thing for me is that this building is FILTHY. The reception area, common room and viewing flat downstairs are all clean but as soon as you head upstairs the corridors are stained, crusty and filthy. There has been a crusty stain that looks like sick on one of the stairwells ever since I started living here months ago and it has never been cleaned. It also smells really bad because no one has ever properly cleaned these carpets. Same goes for inside my flat, the carpets are filthy and I was told I would have to pay for someone to clean it. If there wasn't a hygiene problem it would be great living here.
The internet was terrible all year, our kitchen was really small compared to the Marketgate kitchens, (accommodation which you pay far less for) they had builders working on the outside of the building who looked directly into our windows for months, and the washing machines constantly broke down. Good points are the location is really handy, the staff are friendly and the rooms are all spacious and come with desks and storage space. If you're going to live in the city centre, I wouldn't recommend Phoenix Court.
Overpriced compared to what was on offer at other halls but you pay for a nicer building, really friendly and helpful staff and a very quiet living environment. During my year we didn't get any cleaning services though we did have inspections every month or so. Socially it was very quiet, which I saw as a plus, though they did organise pool tournaments and movie nights fairly regularly and the common room did become a party spot some weekends.
