I don't know what has happened! When I was there it was a sought after residence. Yes there were shared bathrooms and kitchens but the rooms were nice and the refectory served full English breakfasts and excellent evening meals of restaurant standard! The 1974 New Year's Dinner and Ball was very memorable. Who was in hall with me, well Rowan Atkinson for one! The social life was excellent and the annual footlights show, as you might imagine, with such talent abounding, was entertainment of the highest order. The location was a challenge for some but fine if you had a car or bike. There was an excellent library, a croquet lawn, tennis and indoor sports! Well time changes everthing but it's sad to see these dire reviews!
Being at hendo in 2013-2014 was the last year it had a large number of students and it was a complete dive, mouldy and undersized with no real in flat social areas but what meant that we were all crying on the last night of term when we had packed out bags and parents were on their way was that it was the most social halls because of the distance from town you had to know enough people to ensure you could find someone for a taxi. During the exam season it had a computer cluster full of people having a laugh trying to revise, the large green was used for casual rugby and water fights when the sun was shining. I really miss this dump more than anything.
