OK but out of the way and the kind of place where you have to make friends with your block otherwise its hard to meet others due to a lack of social area. The staff and facilties were all good but not a good social experience
It's more like a street of houses rather than a flat, which makes it very comfortable and an attractive place to live. My favourite thing is that you get 12 people per house (6 per floor) which means it's very sociable and always buzzing! It's also right next to Castle Leazes. Had a few issues with the showers at first (one broke and flooded the flat, but the management were very quick at fixing it an cleaning up the flood!) It's also quite a bit of distance from a supermarket and the university.
It would be great if the accommodation was actually close to University. It said it's a 7 minute walk but it's actually 20 minutes. It's run down and not very modern plus there are mostly post graduate students living here so the social life isn't that good. The appliances in the kitchen aren't good - the oven let's out smoke whenever it's used.
Have really enjoyed my time at Leazes Parade, not too far from campus and great value for money. Good communal area, which many accommodations don't have, and a table to eat and predrink ( instead of other accommodation where this is done in bedrooms) Your accommodation enjoyment is hugely impacted by social aspects; I was lucky enough to have some great people who love socialising in my block. It's perfect layout for doing work when you need silence, however also can be fun and lovely when you need it. Kitchens are all very nice, showers could potentially so with a face lift, but overall really impressed. Ratio of toilets to people is great, I have 2 toilets between 5. Rooms are of a nice size, not too small with washbasins which is handy.
Do not stay at Leazes Parade if you can help it--ESPECIALLY if you are a postgraduate student. The staff are really nice, but that's about the only good thing about staying here. It is nice and quiet during the day, but then the partiers like to come back drunk in the middle of the night and make all sorts of ruckus. My flat was a dump when I moved in. Repair requests went ignored for months. Trash frequently piles up outside the door. Reception hours are completely useless and are prone to change without notice. There are only 3 laundry machines for the whole complex, and they are expensive and frequently out of service. There is also very little storage space in the kitchen. I really wish I had found a flat elsewhere instead of putting up with the stress of living in this place for a year. Save yourself while you still can!
