I had the misfortune to be allocated a room in this wretched hall (even though it wasn't one of my choices), and it almost caused me to drop out of university. The only positive aspect of the flats is that they are modern, with quite good facilities (eg: large kitchen). However, there is no communal space in the halls (because they've crammed in as many students as possible to make more money), so different blocks/flats can't really meet or socialise with each other. The whole setup seems designed to turn people into miserable b******* who never come out of their rooms. The rooms are small, and resemble something from a travelodge. It's quite nice to have your own bathroom, but they don't have natural light and they're also small. I spent a month in this hell-hole, and it was miserable as f***. Fortunately, through persistently harassing the accommodation office, I managed to get a transfer to Woolton Hall in Fallowfowfield, and I've never regretted it. Had an amazing year since.
The location is defiantly perfect, you're right by the student union and by all the university buildings. We had a few issues with items being broken when we arrived like the hoover , toaster and fridge but they were replaced within a week. We have had issues with contractors coming in all the time to inspect things in the rooms and some have even stole some of our food. We raised the issue it was sorted. The staff are very friendly and if you get good room mates you can have a good social life but as there are only 4 of you, you may need to join a sport or society if you're unlucky not to like your house mates.
would NOT recommend! I had a rubbish social life here and spent the whole year wearing earplugs as my room was facing upper Brook street (such a busy road with busy traffic and ambulances at all hours of the day) and you can hear all of this through the thin windows. It was horrible. the location is just sooooo out of the way from any social activity and nightlife it's just in a leafy boring area. Stay in fallowfield instead! Management aren't the best, takes a while for any problems to get fixed. It's soooo expensive for what it is and it's just not worth it. Lift was always broke and I was on the fifth floor. Only pros are that the flat is nice and modern, and it's not too far to walk from uni - about 15mins. Counted down the days until I could move out!!!
The perfect halls for you, if you love being woken up at 9am everyday during exam season by maintenance work that is. Miserable and unhelpful staff, very unsociable hall, tiny rooms, patchy and unreliable wifi, and questionable security.
I had a great time at VH. the student complaining that they need to clean their own flat is an idiot, it states in our tenancy agreement that the flat needs to be kept in a clean and tidy condition which is once a month. they actually pay for cleaner to clean the flats and bedroom once we leave. reception staff are super friendly and I had a great 1st year here.
so hard to meet people, flats of 3 or 4 people. you have to clean your own flat and they do cleaning inspections. its ridiculous they'll charge you for absolutely everything. reception staff are not friendly. they even expect us to clean at the end of the year so they dont have to pay for cleaners !! if its not clean enough they will charge you, and if you leave anything behind, even just a plate, in their own words 'we charge for the removal of left items/crockery that isnt provided by victoria hall' they will charge you! if i would not recommend victoria halls
The accommodation is nice and new but there is no social life if you are not located in the main quad, doesn't feel as safe either. We have room inspections every month and they are ridiculously strict, will fine you if its not up to their standards. Location is near to shops and uni (like 20 min walk) but not very close to other student areas. Internet is very slow.
Don't come here if you actually want to enjoy yourself!! The social experience in Victoria is non existent. The halls is mainly international students which isn't an issue, despite the fact many have arrived here with their friendship groups so tend not to socialise. Several people have found themselves in flats with 3/4 other flatmates who don't even speak to them!! A year in and I see people on a day to day basis who I've never seen/spoken to before because nobody here knows anyone. If you want to rot away in your room and have next to no social time, then come to Victoria Hall! The only good thing is that it isn't far from uni!
