Halls poorly managed, loud with no punishments when there was disruption, often weed smoked on site and cleaning staff was rude, you couldn’t tell they had even attended. Common room was always empty. No good for people wanting a quiet uni life and no provisions made. Minimal resources
Nothing works!!! You'd be seriously wasting your money for a halls that costs a bomb for living in squalor. My flatmates and I have reported faulty utilities since we first arrived in September and the staff are useless at getting anything fixed! My heating doesn't work so my room is always freezing. It has allegedly be 'fixed' three times now and still no heat!!! Our cooker doesn't work properly. The lock on our front door broke once and until they could get a locksmith to fix it, their solution was to keep our front door open with a doorstop, meaning anyone from the other flats in Elvaston could have walked into our flat at any time. It's really far away from the Uni and the bus service is rubbish. I had a lecture finishing at 9pm at Markeaton and there was no bus so I had to walk back in the pitch dark and someone was mugged right outside of Lonsdale so that was always fun! I really wouldn't recommend staying here!
Absolutely horrendous 8 months. I lived here for my first year of Uni and it was absolutely terrible and puts Derby Uni to shame. One of the many issues we had was maintenance. When we first moved in, both the kitchen window and kitchen extractor fan were broken. The kitchen window was broken in the sense that it would not lock and the extractor fan was so clogged up with mess, it wouldn’t work. Not only was this a safety issue, but even though they knew about the issues as they have to check the flats before we moved in, they waited 3 month to do anything about it AFTER WE HAD MADE THEM AWARE OF THE ISSUES. This shows there was no attempt to fix these until the issue was brought to them. Even then, in took them 3 months to fix it. We had a similar issue with the toilet light that would constantly blow and cause all of the fuses in the flat to blow. Every time this happened, we had to call a member of the maintenance team to switch the fuses back on and, even though this was rep
Awful, management does not help with social issues and there is no support for students targeted by others in the flat. Cleaners wrap the shelves in the oven in YOUR tin foil to prevent actually cleaning them, and it's always full of stoners.
Room was full of stains when I moved in, and had a massive stain that looked like sick on the floor. We had no common room and a tiny kitchen that was to small to fit 8 people in, there was no where near enough freezer/fridge space as well! Bathroom has 2 showers with cubicles attached one being way to small for an adult size human being to fit in so all 8 people have to share one shower which is a nightmare!! The windows are like paper even with them closed you can hear everything going on outside. However on the plus side it's always lively!
Staying in halls wasn't the experience I was hoping for, the accommodation isn't very nice, the living area looks like a doctor's waiting room, the car parking is stupidly expensive and it's too far away from the uni and town. The staff who work there are rude and don't knock, they just let anyone in. One of my flat mates got away with letting their boyfriend squat in our flat even though we'd complained. You get fined if the fire alarm goes off. Noise can be an issue at times ie.. getting complaints/making complaints. My general experience hasn't been a good one and I can't wait to move into my own house!
