Would definitely not recommend you staying here as a girl. The residence officer is incredibly creepy, entering rooms or coming to fix things without notice. He has come to fix things that I didn't even know needed maintenance which makes me fear he has been in without me there. I feel watched and uncomfortable. He routes through bins and finds personal letters or packages to pin it on you and sends letters to threaten you with payment. My only positives of the place are my lovely flatmates and a nice area.
Located in a nice area and you have your own private bathroom, but that it absolutely it. The one thing that bothered me the most, was the land officer who goes through your rubbish and walks into your room unannounced just to check up on your room. The land officer is an absolute creep and I would definitely not reccommend future students to live here, especially if your are a girl. I have felt very uncomfortable throughout the year.
This place is bad. The landlord especially have a huge problem with the way students clean the kitchen area. Even when it is clean he will still assume that it is very dirty, and will threaten to CHARGE you at any point if he thinks he can find 'evidence' to charge. Alarms are always on on every Friday afternoons, sometimes the alarm can be triggered out of the blue and waiting for someone to come over to the place to fix will be more than an hour, the worst could be more than 5 hours+. One of my roommates complained about lack of privacy when the landlord just went in her room to check for whatever he wants to satisfy his own mood and at the time she was in the bathroom. There was a few times where there was no water, and all the residences in block A did not have water back for few days(because the plumbers were not working on weekends) although it was finally fixed and some vouchers were provided as compensation. It is charged by studio room price per month with very bad facilities.
Good news- Lovely and safe area, large rooms and quite for postgrad study. Ensuite, outdoor area and clean rooms. Made great friends with my flat mates. Bad news - Super intrusive caretaker who complains, walks into your rooms without notice and speaks to you as if you're a 5 year old. He personally makes me feel uncomfortable and I feel uneasy when asking for maintanence repairs. Would have been nice to have a TV in the communal area.
Located in a nice and safe area. You'd have your own bathroom and only share the kitchen. It would have been nicer if there was a tv in the common area. The land officer is helpful but moans too much about recycling your waste. It is close to the train station, about 15 minutes to the co-op/Asda, however it's a 25 minute walk to university.
This halls was good value for money but the most unsociable place ever. I stayed in university owned halls during first year and then lived in private halls. It was fine to live in just so quiet compared to university owned halls where I knew my whole block. I lived in phase 2 which tends to have 2nd / 3rd / mature students but there are some freshers in there. I would go for phase 1 if i were a 1st year. The management are okay can sometimes seem a bit annoyed but the caretakers are lovely and are always willing to help. With most university halls it's you just have to make the most of it. Vic halls isn't the worst place to live just maybe not the place if you want a sociable university year.
