I really didn’t like halls, the radiator in my room would never turn off, everything was really old and looked gross no matter how much you clean it (kitchen and room), there were stains that you could tell were very old, there is no social space - just the kitchen. I would rate halls 2/10 from my experience, I’m not even kidding when I say Finnish prisons are nicer and better looked after than Hardwick halls
Was in Thames. Couldn't be better placed, cleaning staff were lovely as were campus security. however, there was bizarre stains, plumbing problems, and it felt like living in a school. not the worst, but definitely not the best
Hardwick was pretty much ignored by the university. There were no facilities, bus travel to and from clubs or support for students having trouble in the dorms. I was vastly disappointed in my experience there and wished that I'd paid a tiny amount extra for pitville student Village as they all got so much for their money by only paying a small amount more.
The 2018/19 price is £133 a week. If you can afford to, do NOT choose Hardwick. Everything (the rooms and kitchen) is old, knackered, slightly broken and/or stained. On the website it says "spacious en-suite rooms" which is an out right lie, the rooms are tiny. This is the same for the kitchen too, many of us keep all/some of our kitchen utensils and pans etc. in our rooms as there's not enough space for 9 people. The cleaners don't do much, someone I live with has to mop and clean the stove because the cleaners don't. The walls are EXTREMELY thin so it's constantly noisy. There's no living room-like social space, the kitchen is the only communal social space. The campus looks like a prison with a 6 ft metal fence all the way around and bars on the windows, I would really recommend you to choose anywhere but Hardwick (especially Avon).
I stayed in Hardwick for my first year.. never again will I stay in halls! .. It was unbelievably noisey, I had my flat mates, people upstairs and people going on a night out keeping me awake near enough every single night!. I should a flat with 10 other girls and it was an absolute night mare. The kitchen was so small, there was not enough cupboard space, drawers or fridge freezers which caused a lot of upsets and friction with my flat mates. I was lucky with my room as I had one of the biggest/disabled room. However, the rooms can definitely do with refurbishing. The carpet looks old and has stains on. The bathroom had constant mould from the toilet no matter how many times you clean it. There is also gunge underneath the taps and mould in the shower.. It was pretty awful. Wouldn't stay in halls ever again and glad to be living at home this year.
The halls are very old and are due for refurbishment the summer I move out. We only have the kitchen as our communal area. Our kitchen is double the size of all the others but we aren't allowed sofas and we have 3 tables which don't even fill the space. They cost £117 a week and the size of the rooms and my kitchen really is worth that. I have friends in other unis and I have double the space and triple the space of my friends. The proximity to the uni is good but town is a bit of a walk.
