Blackweir Lodge Biography
Blackweir Lodge offers residents modern student accommodation with the city centre being only 1 mile away. Not only can you explore the many pubs, restaurants, shops and Cardiff University Students’ Union and popular pub The Woodville located nearby, but you can also enjoy the quiet space of Bute Park and Blackweir Fields. Getting to class couldn’t be easier as Cardiff University and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama are only 1 mile away whilst both Cardiff Metropolitan University campuses are within a twenty-minute bus ride from the property.
Blackweir Lodge boasts some fantastic social spaces for you to take advantage of. great place to live and surrounded by good places
I moved in taking over someone else's lease so my experience might be a little different! I will start off with the very few negative things so far: the room definitely wasn't very clean when I first moved in and I took a whole day to get it up to par (but this might not apply if you're moving in at the start of the year), and the mattress was really old and quite bad, definitely hard to sleep on without a topper. Everything else? Lovely. The room itself is nice and has a lot of storage space and well thought out layout. The living rooms and kitchen give everyone the space they need, and the common areas are pretty well kept and nice to hang out in to watch a movie with friends or play games. My favorite part so far has been the staff though, they're always present and ready to listen or give advice or help if they can, it really gives me peace of mind to know I can walk in with a problem and have someone (shout out to Sergio, he's always on point) help out.

The staff team are extremely helpful, and efficient when there is ever anything wrong with the flat. They are quick to fix issues and are always lovely and pleasant to everyone. Highly reccomend.

Luke is such a friendly staff member, he is always helping me and my friends out and running events. Blackweir is a fun place to stay and I wish I could stay again next year.
I had the best experience at Blackweir Lodge, very close to the city center and the main park. I made very good friends. The team was always very nice to me and always helped me when I needed. I would definitely recommend it :)
I lived here during my 1st year of uni, everything has an orange/ cream tint to it, the freezers kept turning off. The COVID clean they said they did clearly hadn’t been done, there was stuff from 2 years ago down the side of the bed and pubic hair all over the bathroom. Security were rude and just let themselves into your flat without knocking and didn’t deal with noise complaints they joined the noise and had a smoke with the residents. Refused to give money back for those who moved home and were not staying there. Worst place I have stayed it was equivalent to a prison.
Liberty Fields had amazingly friendly, fun and helpful member of staff but at reception and on the maintenance team. The security team was also lovely. The reception staff (especially Sophie & Alex) made an effort to make the students living here feel welcomed and valued. They organised loads of great events and fun competitions such as Easter Egg hunts, Chinese New Year problem solving & Glitter socials in the common room! You could always go to reception for a natter about the day or any problems you are experiencing with your flat and they would chat through resolutions with you. I had a blast while I was living at Lib Fields!
Wifi pretty good. Cleanliness of property when arrived was good. We didn’t have a cleaner as such, but me and my roommates were pretty tidy. Management and maintenance very good and helpful.
The staff are very helpful. The kitchen is very modern. The rooms are absolutely horrendous and very outdated. The blue curtains and carpets along with the magnolia walls just do not feel homely at all.
Very unsociable. Terrible place to be for first year. I hate it here (I’m first year Cardiff Uni). Go to Talybont, you’ll actually make friends there. I felt depressed living here through my first semester, and only got out of it by joining socials and clubs. But every time I come back to my room I feel isolated and down. The WiFi is abysmal. Always needing to reconnect. Also you don’t get service here. I have to go outside of the gates to get phone service (which is extremely inconvienent)! Management is okay. They have their favourites. Kinda blunt people. Cleaniness is great here. Maintenance are always on top of things. They do weekly fire drills and they can get on your nerves at 10am. Bike storage is good. They use key fobs which is annoying. You can only get in and out with the key fob. So if you have friends over you’re constantly needing to go outside to open the bloody gate (which is heavy). Overall it’s okay here but very isolated and unsociable
Had the best time here although was a bit expensive.
This hall is really nice and modern to live in, though a tad expensive. There isn't any communal cleaning, but it's not hard to keep things nice and hygienic so long as everyone chips in. The biggest negative, is that the soundproofing is basically non-existent. If you're not on the top floor...good luck, hope you get someone who sleeps through the night. People loitering in the courtyard will keep you up until they move, because shutting the window does nothing (hope you get a room facing the back, or don't have any early mornings or need sleep.) So basically, if you want quiet, I wouldn't go through the lottery here. It's not worth the risk.

it was the worst experience ever! the people in the reception were rude and not bothered by any complaints we gave them. maintenance men would just barge into your room without waiting for your 'come in' reply. i would highly recommend living in liberty halls because my my friends have loved it there.
Weekly fire alarm checks which basically meant you never got to sleep in. Staff would come into your flat without knocking and a lot of the staff were quite rude.
Victoria Halls are excellent, situated just outside of Cardiff city centre (10 minute walk or 2 stops on the bus) makes it great for accessing everything Cardiff has on offer! The staff are extremely accommodating and always happy to help with any problems you may encounter! I had a Deluxe room and it was everything I was hoping for; it was very spacious and well maintained. In addition, the extra money for a double bed was completely worth it and would definitely advise it! Overall Victoria Halls was the perfect home for my first year at Cardiff Met!
Brilliant place for the 1st year of university , ever had a problem it would have been sorted in less than 48 hours depending on the problem. Always warm and great for party's!
