I honestly don't know why it isn't more expensive/popular. It's only a 10 minute walk from the campus and just opposite the med school. The rooms are really big for the price and the flats have just been renovated meaning they have new bathrooms and kitchens. It's generally a lot quieter than other accommodations which is fine, it's much better to walk 10 minutes to a party than be kept up till 3am when you've got a 9am lecture. You can always find people who are willing to go out, or stay in as there's a good mix of both. You're also only a 15 minute walk from Harborne which was plenty of shops and such which make the self-catered bit really simply. The central Bar Leo's isn't fantastic however, nothing really much goes on. We complained when our extractor fan was broken and it wasn't fixed so we did it ourselves. Overall really good if you want somewhere with a good mix of people that's close to campus and really good value for money.
Definitely the best you will get for under £100 if that is your budget. Fairly quiet and not too far a walk to the main campus. Brilliant for medics or for people who aren't quite the 24/7 partiers, which there are by the way for those who do chose the partying life, just not too many of them in Ashcroft. Very nice to have 2 toilets and 2 showers between 6 as it means you hardly ever have to wait.
They place you with people who they think will suit you. I had an issue with one member of the house but you can always report it and they will do something. Any other issues that we have had, we've normally been able to sort out ourselves.
I absolutely love my flatmates they are lovely. I have found at Ashcroft that if you want to go out clubbing you will be able to find someone in your flat or at least your block who's up for it, but there are also many chilled out people who are always up for a night in. Pritchatt's park is so much closer to campus and med school than the Vale and that is so useful! It only takes 10 minutes to walk to campus (a 7 minute powerwalk to medical school/edge of campus). At the end of the day it's the people who make your accommodation what it is and you don't know what the people will be like until you arrive so don't stress over picking too much. Sharing a bathroom has not been a problem for me but I'm sure I wouldn't turn down the luxury of an en suite if I could afford that.
