Was a fresher in 13/14 so it's going back a bit now, but I loved Oakley. As people have said a flat of twelve people can be a bit intimidating at first, but I was good friends with all my flatmates after the first couple of weeks, and it means there's always someone around to chat to. The kitchens are big and have enough cupboards/fridges/ovens for multiple people to cook at once. We did a really nice Xmas meal in first term, all 12 of us in the kitchen and cooking at once. Also good for inviting lots of friends round for pres. It's closer to campus and the Uni train station than the Vale, and is close to Harborne/Selly for shopping. The laundry room in Pritchatts is also like, a minute's walk away at most. We used to go into the Pritchatts house bar in the evenings - from what I gather that's changed a bit now but stil looks good. It's a great way to meet other people in Pritchatts Park! TLDR; I really enjoyed my time there, management and RAs were decent, I'd recommend.
Oakley Court made first year the best. 13 people in a flat can sound intimidating and too busy but it means there's always people around and it has a great vibe/social life that you can pick and choose to be part of. The kitchen is so spacious and clean/functions very well & the rooms are pleasant and a decent enough size. Was worried at first because I wasn't on the vale but Oakley is better value for money and I never felt like I missed out on anything. It's very nice and green and close to the uni, you won't want to leave at the end of first year.
Absolutely loved staying here! I have had an amazing flat and everyone has been so sociable! The kitchens a re so spacious and are a great place to spend time together and host pres! It is a good walking distance from the university as well and definitely underrated! Would thoroughly recommend!
Good accommodation but don't choose it if you don't like noise. The kitchens are really nice. In fact, so nice that everyone wants to stay there all day and socialise. This is fine if you're social but if you're like me and have a lot of work to do it gets really noisy especially if you have the pleasure of getting the room right next to the kitchen. With around 8 to 13 people in each flat it gets very noisy so keep that in mind. I'm moving for this very reason. The rooms themselves are OK. I have enough space for everything but they do get very warm even with the heating turned off. The duplex bathroom I have is good apart from the shower, which is cramped and has very low water pressure. Maintenance is bad. It'll take weeks for them to come fix your door, shower or oven. The cleaning service is good though.
Such a little gem! Definitely the best kitchen in any accommodation. Has lovely large flats which make for social flatmates! Leo’s bar is super close and cheap. Maintenance could be better but overall so so so worth it. The vale is far overrated in comparison to this
137pounds per week, and at the end of the tenancy, you are requested to hire your own professional cleaner otherwise you will not get the full refund of deposit back. The internet is terrible, the wifi doesnt reach your rooms, also it has latency with slow connection speed. Overall I am disgusted with this accommodation.
Great room and communal area size however there are faults with certain utilities in our flat (i.e. The shower pressure is not so great and one of the toilets has low water pressure too). The location is fantastic as you are 10 minutes away from Harborne, 20 from Selly Oak and less than 10 from the Campus. Great if you are a med student as you can get to the med school in about 7 minutes. However keep in mind that you are likely to live with 12/13 people. This means at times it will be noisy and the kitchen will look like a dumpster, but you will also have the most amazing pre-drinks and 11 people to talk to.
The kitchens are great, large with good equipment and perfect for having friends over or for large pres. Close to uni (closer than the vale) it's about a 15-20 minute walk (to the poynting physics building anyway). In my experience there wasn't much socialising between flats, although the flats are large enough that there wasn't really much need for that anyway. The only problem was that our oven kept breaking, and we had a broken ironing board that only got replaced at the end of the second term, maintenance weren't the best, although that seems to be a thing over all the halls and everything got fixed in the end.
