One of the furthest accommodations on the vale which can suck on rainy/cold days. Takes approximately 25 mins to walk to campus or 8 mins to cycle along the canal route. I recommend investing in a bike before you come, the surrounding blocks have their own indoor key-coded bike sheds. Meal plan is definitely a rip-off. Food is overpriced so most students end up using their £55 allowance before the end of the week resulting in spending more money to shop for food for the weekend. A single piece of fruit is 60p and sandwiches are on average £3.50. You can't use meal plan at the local Costcutter either - something I was told I could do on an open day. The rooms are a good size and the desks are huge which was a main reason I chose Elgar. Beds aren't comfy so invest in a thick mattress topper. Shower rooms are ok, all starting to get a bit run down with age but still decent. Kitchens are BRAND NEW and a very large size - major plus for flat parties. Heating and internet are good.
Elgar Court is acthally really nice, alright sized rooms and amazing kitchens. But my shower never worked ever, was always freezing or broken, our hot water cut out all the time. Location isn't as big as a problem that everyone is making it out to be. It's so annoying because all the uni have to do is update the bedrooms a bit more so that the bathrooms aren't totally falling apart and the accomodation would be quite good. If you're choosing between this and maple bank DEFINITELY choose maple bank. Half the price and just as nice, the bathrooms are even nicer
137pounds per week, and at the end of the tenancy, you are requested to hire your own professional cleaner otherwise you will not get the full refund of deposit back. The internet is terrible, the wifi doesnt reach your rooms, also it has latency with slow connection speed. Overall I am disgusted with this accommodation.
I chose this accommodation due to the fact that I wished to have an ensuite which is a blessing (particularly after a heavy night out). The bathroom was faultless- however my room grew mould throughout the year. Furthermore the flat was left without an oven and a fridge for the first four weeks. Upon arrival the hall was also flooded. These flats are aging and not in the best state of repair. THERE ARE NEWER FLATS- AND ELGAR COURT IS SIMPLY NOT WORTH £7K PLUS WHEN YOU MAKE THE COMPARISONS. The shared space in the flat is great for socialising- the only problem is our flat was about 1 of 4 socialable flats in the whole of Elgar court. Therefore if you are looking for a more socialable experience I'd suggest looking elsewhere. However I was lucky due to the fact that I found a few like minded friends in my block. I suggest trying to make friends early in your freshers week so that you are able to at least enjoy your down time from education in what is otherwise a very dead complex.
Really nice for what it costs. Only annoying thing is it's furthest from the uni (on the vale village), however it does mean I don't have to exercise in other ways as walking up the hill is enough- and its not even that bad. Huge rooms with large desk and really nice showers! Internet is really good, although it did go out for a few days after a power cut but was solved pretty fast.
the walk to uni is horrible but we're also a good distance from town. We had a lot of problems when we moved in (broken freezer and heating etc) but they were fixed quite quick. It's really social able here and easy to meet people all over the vale!
Elgar flats are so nice and great for socializing in once you've found friends, but everyone is pretty anti-sociable because it's mostly international students. Make sure you forge friendships in freshers and plan pre drinks with people so that you have people to socialize with after freshers is over!! It took us until second term to realize this and now we've got a good group of friends the year is almost over.
