Jennens Court Biography
Jennens Court is an excellent option for students looking for central accommodation in Birmingham. The residence is right next to Birmingham City University as well as Aston University, with the city centre being a quick five-minute walk for students. BCU North Campus and the University of Birmingham can both be reached within twenty-five minutes by train or bus. Being located in the Eastside means you have access to green spaces as well as shops, cinemas, markets and street food.
Along with its excellent location, Jennens Court also boasts some fantastic amenities for residents to enjoy. Some of its top features include; a lush outdoor social space, a common room kitted out with a TV, sofas, pool table and table football, a cinema room at another Unite property and a study room. There is also a cafe and Subway on the ground floor as well as a convenience store and takeaway shops nearby.
Students have their choice between an en-suite room with a shared kitchen and lounge or a private studio. All come fully furnished and offer a cosy home away from home environment. Housing less than 600 students, Jennens Court offers a lively social experience while still having the luxury of having a close-knit community feel.

When needing a replacement tenant to get out I had a close friend lined up to take over the tenancy who was depending on it, I had cancelled the booking and had them reserve it under the friends name. Without any communication they advertised the room themselves and had i taken over by a new tenant leaving this friends reservation pointless and with nowhere to live. Complete lack of communication and outright tomfoolery in making this persons life much more difficult for no reason. Left feeling enraged and upset.
Jennes court is a good accommodation, it's mainly good for the location and the receptionist are so friendly, sweet and nice. Shout out to Roger (Night security), has been very helpful since my mood in day.

My experience at Jennens Court, as far as my stay is concerned, has been wonderful. What I appreciate most about Jennes is the convenience it provides to us tenants. It's close to town and most importantly to BCU & BCUIC. The team at Jennens is always there to aid our stay here, however, I've had an exceptionally wonderful experience working with Mr. Sock Redding, a very diligent young man. Lastly the security and amenities in Jennens Court are up to date, well maintained and enjoyable. 5 stars from me.

we had a leak in our kitchen for 6 months that still is yet to be resolved or has kept returning , have reported it many times (at least 10+) on the app. the people who work at reception have been ever so helpful anytime there’s been an issue, for example our front door broke and i couldn’t get in and red went over and beyond to try help and resolve, they are always so smiley and helpful and very easy to strike up a conversation with couldn’t fault!

Jennens is generally an ideal place to stay while in university the security team Roger, Dean and Felix are really useful and they help keep the building secure during the night. The only issue I have is with the NSP app being forced to be the main entry key to the building which is not secure.

Honestly living at Jennens is the most ideal place to live as it’s in the centre of town & local to train stations & places to shop. Aside from all of that, Honor goes above and beyond for all the students at Jennens. She greets everyone that walks past and honestly she’s the blessing that we all didn’t know we needed. Jennens is an is an okay place to live but Honor makes Jennens an amazing place to call home (or second home for most students). She’s always got a smile on her face which doesn’t go unnoticed, and she makes everyone’s day a lil brighter & happier.

If I could give 0 stars for cleanliness, I would because the bathrooms, which you think is something they would care about cleaning before new tenants move in are so dirty and unbearable. It takes ages to fix a maintenance request if they even attempt to, and when you decide to do something about it yourself, if it's something you bought like a showerhead so that you don't get black stuff coming out of their own showerheads, they take it away as if it's their own. I understand taking it off but they should not take it as if it belongs to them since you spend money on said stuff. It's a horrible experience and I will not be booking again with them and I advise future tenants to not book with them either since you deserve so much better for the money you'll be paying.

We have a housekeeping team that works 7 days a week to ensure all of our communal spaces are well-maintained and cleaned, enabling you and your neighbouring students to use our communal spaces knowing they have been cleaned. The facilities and maintenance team members have been working incredibly hard to work through all of the maintenance issues reported to us at check in, which you can imagine was a substantial amount. If they have removed a showerhead, this is due to us having a routine maintenance schedule in place to ensure that our there is no risk of water related illnesses such as legionellas. The safety, health and wellbeing of our students is always a priorty for us which is why your own showerhead has now been removed. We would love the opportunity to improve on the experience you have had to date and encourage you to get in touch so we can discuss in more detail. I really wish I could say the proximity to uni and the (relatively) decent price given its location made the place worth it. If you're willing to put up with the following then you're grand here - Internet is unreliable and slow - Fire alarms break every other week. They go on and off every few minutes and staff never seem to know why, no matter how often it happens. - The laundry room is a disaster. Half the machines don't work, the dryers don't dry, and the floor is always wet and covered in detergent and powder. The price of a wash and dry is also ridiculous (works out at about £5) given how unreliable the machines are. - The flat was dirty when we arrived. My flatmate's toilet was already broken. Surfaces and appliances quite clearly hadn't been cleaned. The whole flat smelled like B.O. Bear in mind we were just coming out of a pandemic when we moved in, so the lack of good house-keeping was a little disturbing. - You have to push them to complete maintenance requests.

Our internet is provided by Glide and should you have any concerns about the speed of your wi-fi, then you are encouraged to contact Glide directly as this is not managed by Unite Students. We are in the process of upgrading our laundry with a complete refit of new machines, and the laundry room is cleaned on a daily basis. We do have a lost property section of uncollected clothes that we are working to improve on too. The prices of the laundry machines are also determined by Circuit laundry, not Unite but we will pass on your comments regarding the price. We work to ensure all priority maintenance tasks are completed within 24 hours and our facilities teams are working tirelessly to ensure all of your homes are safe and secure. The worst accommodation I have stayed in. Cladding work being done since January. Extremely disruptive with constant noise and banging. Fire alarms that go off atleast twice a week. Terrible customer service. Not understanding at all of ongoing pandemic and students needs. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money for poor facilities.
I've been at Jennens for 2 years, most of that was during Covid-19. The ethernet speed is decent, the location is great, but those are the only two good things I can say. Rats in the basement, silverfish in the walls, flies in the drains. It took maintenance a month to replace our oven after it caught fire, leaving us without hot food over Christmas. There's been building work going on for 6 months, and it's usually too loud for me to think without ear plugs in. People do not socially distance, some don't even wear shoes or socks when walking around the building. Drunk students throw old TVs and beer bottles at cyclists from the 5th floor. In winter, my room is 9 degrees, in summer it's 30+. If you're just looking for somewhere to sleep at night, it's fine. If you're going to be spending any amount of time in the flat, go elsewhere.

I am sorry to hear that the cladding works that were completed caused you some disruption. Unfortunately these works were essential to complete for the safety and wellbeing of our students and guests, particularly after events such as Grenfell and the fire at The Cube in Bolton, we do not want to take risks with our students safety so these works were essential to complete. I am pleased to say that these works are now completed so we do not expect any further issues relating to this. We do have routine pest inspetions and work with the experts to ensure that we do not have any issues with pests. Since the date of your review, we now operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and so we have a fantastic team of security and night teams who support with our noise complaints and any anti-social behaviour. We also have an emergency contact centre which is also available 24/7 so any issues can be addressed straight away. I hope that this helps to address some of the issues you have highlighted and demonstrate that we are always working to deliver the very best service for our students. terrible price compared to the rent they charge there was black bacteria growing in my shower plug sealant and the plug had chipped paint, the desk was heavily damaged, ther glide wifi cuts out all the time and is unreliable although the wifi speeds are really good when it decides to work. the location is the only good thing about the building, the BOA students adjacent to the building scream like banshees, they wake you up and disrupt any studying you want to do. the building is terrible the only positives are the desk staff are friendly and the location is good avoid this accommodation at all costs.
Great location 10 mins to opposite side campus, 15 mins to all major things in city centre (train stations, Bull Ring, shops). Great on-site team. The 2 main doors were sometimes left open for some reason. As long as you don't mind being on a main road (Jennens Road) otherwise ask about being in a room at side/back. Laundry room was enough, sometimes no available washers so had to wait to do washing, ended up often doing Saturday afternoon, or after 10pm when not many people were using them. Only real downside is the price, especially compared to other Unite properties I have visited and compared with friends both in Birmingham, and at other universities.
Le QQWiFi is always turning off. Reception staff are rude, unhelpful, unorganised and obvious about the fact that they don't want to be there! One woman from reception went into my room randomly then lied and said she had to because the smoke alarm went off and it didn't. Another guy had to let me in because I forgot my key and complained the whole way up even after I apologised a million times. General unfriendly and unwelcoming atmosphere. 100% do not live here. Can't even explain how horrendous it is! Completely ruined my final year and had added 10X more stress on to me.
So unbearably hot in the summer, I moved out a month early because of this despite having already paid all my rent in advance, and so cold in the winter. Radiators can only be turned on for up to 2 hours at a time, so it gets very cold by morning. Rubbish insulation! Do not move here without bringing a fan or two. Windows do not open more than a couple inches. The hobs in the kitchens are very slow to heat up, and when they do it is like a furnace! No way to cool down the kitchen! Massive rat problem in the basement where students are expected to take out their bins and recycling. This is not pleasant. It is great to know the fire alarms work. But when it goes off for hours until 2 in the morning for no apparent reason ... uni is not fun the following day! Especially for those who have exams.
WISH I HAD NEVER BOOKED WITH THEM. COMPLETE RIP OFF ! I wouldn't even rate it 1 star. When I moved in there were various things missing from the kitchen- there was no kettle or toaster. My room wasn't even cleaned properly- found a box of fags down the side of the bed and again there were things missing from the room. Showers are awful ! Never got a decent nights sleep during my stay. It is so noisy outside. The laundry room - that just makes me want to VOM ! During my 2 months there I used it once and never again. My washing came out of the machine covered in bleach stains.There are rats in the car park as the bin area is so filthy. Overall a complete rip off for what you get and very overpriced!
DO NOT GO! I paid 144 a week to which I have left BCU. One main reason being the accomodation, it's located in a VERY unsafe area with huge gangs outside all the time, I have witnessed three fights in the first two weeks, there was a written off car crashed outside with the number plates taken off and the inside ripped apart and two weeks later it's still here, my friends flat got robbed by a group of shady looking lads the ones who hang outside, there's no security it takes 40 minutes for them to arrive, the gangs of people always get into the accomodation wait outside for someone to open the doors and run in, I've been approached by MANY drug dealers, if you're a very sociable character like myself then this isn't for you, the majority staying here were exchange students so it was very difficult making friends, I couldn't be happier to leave even with having to still pay the extortionate price. Google crime rates outside millennium point to see yourself.
Very nice single room with ensuite bit more spacious than most halls I've seen but there is no social spaces to mingle except the courtyard which is hardly used unless you're a smoker

Great location for BCU City Centre campus and only a 2 minute walk from the city centre. Internet is not that fast by modern day standards, 25Mbps is no longer 'super fast', other hall providers commonly provide 100Mbps. Some issues with cheap fittings and showers are especially poor, other than that, comfortable and warm to live in with ample storage space.
On the whole, a pleasurable stay. Staff are very friendly and helpful, fast Wifi and bang smack in the middle of Birmingham, next door to the main BCU campus. Your room/living area has everything you need however certain aspects (like kitchen cupboards and the showers) are quite cheap and not great value for money. If you are an outgoing, sociable person then plenty of opportunity to make friends! I would recommend.
Didn't enjoy my overpriced stay at Jennens Court last year! £120 a week and I hated every minute of it! This year I will be living at home and commuting, Jennens put me off student accommodation for good.
Jennens has okay facilities but it would be nice to have a large communal area to socialise with students from other flats
Overall Jennens Court was a brilliant first year halls. Minutes walk from uni and a 10 minute walk into town. Really can't pick many faults with it. Only down sides, not much of a common room and the washing facilities were way too expensive.
Moving in was a breeze. Since I've been there it has been maintained when a fault has occurred. Staff are very helpful. I find the price of the accommodation does not justify the service and flat you get for the money, and it is also raising prices next year by £500 over the year. The lack of social space is also a huge negative.
this accommodation was perfect, it was close to the university and the city centre. The other people in jennens is what made it best though. I was in a flat with non English students but this didn't matter as I spent my time in other people flats.
Well, it's expensive and we don't have any kind of common room. No snack machine, nothing. It feels like you're in a hotel tbh
