This place is seriously over priced. It's also a particularly miserable place, there's no community feel and you can go days without seeing anyone on your own floor due to large amounts of empty flats/rooms. The condition of the flat/rooms upon moving in were dirty and run down. The day staff are genreraly friendly and helpful however, the night staff not so much. The view from the flats on the exterior of the building is beyond tragic featuring a graffitied abandoned warehouse. The location is convienient for buses and there's a couple of shops near by but apart from that not a great area. Overall Charlton Court is NOT value for money. They make a good impression on open days/online pictures but in reality there is much better accomadation available elsewhere.
(Resident from 27/09/15 - 17/09/16). Positive points: en suite, friendly staff, quick to fix issues. Negative points: -Unclean (marks on walls, carpets needed cleaning, bathroom was not cleaned before arriving, kitchen was a mess: carpet had old vomit on it, sofas smelled and were unclean, hoover smelt of sick when used, no dust pan and brush), kettle was full of limescale and was leaking onto the electrics -many issues over the year: the toilet not working, boiler always braking down therefore, leaving us with no water and also no hot water. -Other flats had better upgraded rooms that were the same price as what we were paying which i think it unfair. -All year round it was very hot in our rooms as we lived at the top, we never used the heating so i would say the top rooms need air conditioning at least as the windows do not open very far. Overall the experience was not pleasant and remember to call up to receive your deposit otherwise you wont receive it for ages.
DON'T BOTHER LIVING HERE JUST GET A HOUSE. I've had nothing but problems my entire stay here. The staff are generally unfriendly and have a tendency to walk in and out of flats as they please (privacy invasion much? Been in the shower and had a member of staff enter my room without my consent). Felt like I was in a prison being checked on by wardens every two minutes. The toilets are s***, mine constantly makes noise when flushed and has disrupted my sleep numerous times. Has not been fixed by maintenance. Had to spend weeks showering at specific times of the day to catch a few minutes of hot water because there is constant boiler problems. The WiFi is the SLOWEST piece of s*** you've ever known, just cuts out at convenient times like when you need to submit your essay. The price is RIDICULOUS for such a s******, just because you're in Bath doesn't mean you can charge £7000 for ridiculously long contracts, especially when you cater specifically TO STUDENTS.
You don't expect a 5 star stay when you come to halls but for £141 a week you would at least expect the flat to be clean and in working order. It's close to town and near shops which is handy but the cons out weigh the pros by a mile. Moved in on a Sunday, I told them the toilet was broken, only got fixed on a Wednesday! The flat was supposed to be cleaned and yet there were stains, scuffs and burn marks all around the kitchen. Again, I don't expect a 5 star service but this is barely above what a hostel would be. But then this is my opinion!
Terrible! Overpriced for what it is! Charlton Court says it is the "high life of student accommodation", try the lowest level of student living! Hot water that didn't work properly, and you still had to run the shower for at least 15 minutes to have a decent temperature even when they fixed the problem. Internet that keeps cutting out, security Gates that have broken twice in a year. Even the staff wernt welcoming! Okay, so you have less people per flat, but is it really worth roughly £140 a week?
One of my greatest memories of university was my first year, especially student halls. Charlton Court was comfortable (a lot bigger than most halls including en suite bathrooms and massive kitchens) living with 4 others. Most of all the location was fantastic and social life even better!
A great location, yet so many problems occurred over the year with piping, Internet and electrics. The kitchens need updating and the outside gates kept breaking. Despite all of that, it's great for socialising and the pool/ping pong table are great for spending time with friends. Would like the prices to be improved, considering that Waterside experienced none of the same problems our housing did.
Charlton Court is far too overpriced - it's not worth it for the slightly bigger bed and less people per flat. We spent a week in November without hot water (so no hot showers) due to a broken down boiler. The internet has also been down for about a fortnight in total forcing us to go into uni to do work whenever it broke. My toilet has broken twice - it just stops flushing. Our fridge has been broken from the Beginning - the door won't seal closed as it's supposed to and we've reported it several times - nothing happens.
